Assemble, fabricate, fit, and weld/braze tube assemblies and mechanical components using a variety of tools, welding equipment, fixtures, and measuring devices according to engineering drawings, specifications, weld symbols, quality requirements, and established manufacturing procedures. This position is responsible for producing high-quality welded tube assemblies used in hydraulic applications and supporting the development and improvement of tube welding processes, fixtures, and work methods. Assemble or fabricate mechanical parts, pieces or products using a variety of tools and equipment according to required specifications in a manufacturing organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, diagrams, weld symbols, bills of materials, specifications, work instructions, and other written procedures to accurately fabricate and weld tube assemblies and products. Prepare tubing and components for welding, including measuring, cutting, deburring, cleaning, positioning, fit-up, and alignment. Perform TIG and/or MIG welding of steel, stainless-steel, and other approved tubing and components as required by engineering specifications. Fabricate and weld tube assemblies to required dimensions, tolerances, weld profiles, and geometric requirements. Create/set up and use welding fixtures, jigs, tooling, clamps, and other equipment to maintain proper tube alignment and repeatability. Control weld distortion and heat input to maintain dimensional requirements and prevent damage to tube assemblies. Use calipers, weld gauges, tape measures, and other precision measuring and welding inspection tools to verify product requirements. Perform visual inspection of tube welds and identify defects such as porosity, undercut, cracking, incomplete fusion, excessive weld size, or other conditions that do not meet specifications. Perform leak, pressure, or other functional testing when required by applicable work instructions or engineering requirements. Maintain welding machines and related equipment using preventative maintenance methods; identify equipment issues that could affect weld quality. Continually evaluate welding equipment, tooling, fixtures, and methods to improve weld quality, repeatability, safety, and cycle time Create and/or modify weldment setups and fixturing to meet dimensional and geometric requirements for tube assemblies Maintain appropriate inventory of welding consumables, tooling, and manufacturing supplies Perform quality checks to ensure welded tube assemblies meet engineering, customer, and quality requirements Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified Rework and/or repair welded tube assemblies and products according to engineering specifications and approved procedures Assist Manufacturing Engineering and Quality with process development, first-article activities, troubleshooting, and improvements related to tube welding and fabrication Prioritize workflow through effective communication with management and manufacturing personnel Perform all work in accordance with quality standards, established safety procedures, and applicable welding practices Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
