Welder Job Description This role focuses on performing high-quality welding on custom parts in a dynamic job shop environment. You will primarily use MIG welding on mild steel, with additional work on stainless steel and aluminum. You will follow blueprint specifications to complete precise welds and may assist with assembling parts and products prior to welding to ensure accurate fit and finish. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on custom parts, primarily using mild steel and occasionally stainless steel and aluminum. Read and interpret blueprints to complete welds that meet specified dimensions and quality standards. Set up welding equipment and materials according to job requirements and safety guidelines. Assist in the assembly of parts and products prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and fit. Inspect welded components for accuracy, structural integrity, and overall quality. Work effectively in a job shop environment, handling a variety of custom projects and tasks. Collaborate with team members to meet production goals while maintaining high workmanship standards. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area, considering the nature of a busy fabrication shop. Essential Skills At least 1 year of MIG welding experience or a technical degree in Welding. Ability to perform MIG welding on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Minimum of 6 months of blueprint reading experience gained on the job or in school. Strong understanding of welding techniques and proper weld preparation. Ability to work from and adhere to detailed blueprint specifications. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds. Ability to work safely in a fabrication and job shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating fabrication machines such as saws, presses, or related equipment. Previous experience working in a job shop environment with custom, varied projects. Technical education or formal training in welding processes and fabrication. Ability to assist with part and product assembly prior to welding. Strong problem-solving skills when working with custom parts and unique builds. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a smaller, growing fabrication operation with approximately 20 employees working across multiple shop buildings on the same property. The work takes place in an active job shop that can be relatively dirty at times due to the nature of welding and fabrication. You will use welding equipment and fabrication tools while working on a variety of custom projects. The standard attire includes jeans and steel-toe boots to support safety and durability in the shop environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Goodhue, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
