Welder and Fabricator Job Description This role focuses on the welding and fabrication of pressure vessels and heat exchangers in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. You will use a variety of fabrication and welding equipment to build large-scale, ASME-certified equipment while interpreting complex blueprints, handling heavy materials, and meeting strict structural weld standards. Responsibilities Perform welding and fabrication of pressure vessels and heat exchangers in a heavy industrial shop environment. Interpret and work from complex blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete fabrication projects accurately. Use MIG, TIG, and other arc welding processes, including Sub ARC when applicable, to produce high-quality welds. Handle and work with heavy materials, including stainless steel, nickel alloy, duplex stainless, and carbon steel in thicknesses ranging from 3/8 inch to 1 1/2 inches. Set up, operate, and maintain various fabrication and welding equipment to build large-scale, ASME-certified equipment. Fit, align, and assemble components and structures according to ASME standards and project requirements. Perform structural welds and pass specific structural weld tests required for ASME pressure vessels and heat exchangers. Inspect welds and fabricated components to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and ASME code requirements. Collaborate with other fabricators, welders, and shop personnel to coordinate workflow and meet production schedules. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in a heavy industrial fabrication facility. Essential Skills At least 10 years of welding and fabrication experience in a heavy industrial environment. Proficiency in MIG welding. Proficiency in TIG welding. Experience working with ASME pressure vessels and/or heat exchangers. Ability to interpret and work from complex blueprints and fabrication drawings. Demonstrated ability to perform structural welds and pass structural weld tests. Experience working with stainless steel, nickel alloy, duplex stainless, and carbon steel materials. Ability to safely handle and work with heavy materials and large fabricated components. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Sub ARC welding is a plus. Background in boiler, pressure vessel, or related ASME code fabrication environments. Strong fitting skills for assembling pressure vessels, boilers, and heat exchangers. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, code-compliant welds. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented shop environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment The position is based in a very industrial fabrication facility with a large hangar-style shop floor equipped with several overhead cranes. The environment is heavy-duty, hands-on, and can be dirty due to the nature of metal fabrication and welding. You will work around large equipment, heavy materials, and industrial machinery in a production-oriented setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newberg, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
