Job Title:
Structural Welder $24.35/Hr - 2nd Shift Job Description We are seeking a skilled Structural Steel Welder to join a busy 2nd shift operation, welding and fabricating structural steel components for a variety of construction and industrial projects. You will use multiple welding processes, interpret blueprints and shop drawings, and adhere to strict safety and quality standards while working in a large structural steel production facility. Responsibilities Weld and fabricate structural steel components, including beams, columns, and girders, using 3/32 and 0.45 wire. Perform MIG and stick structural welding on production and fabrication projects according to specifications and project requirements. Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, schematics, and welding symbols to ensure accurate assembly and fit-up. Operate welding equipment such as MIG and stick welders, and use flux core processes as required. Cut and shape metal using oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutters, grinders, and other common welding shop tools. Fit and position structural steel components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and structural integrity. Inspect completed welds for quality, structural soundness, and compliance with applicable codes and project specifications. Collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and construction teams to meet project goals and production timelines. Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot welding equipment and power tools to ensure safe and efficient operation. Follow all safety protocols, shop procedures, and industry standards to prevent accidents and injuries. Perform post-welding activities such as grinding, cleaning, and polishing to achieve required finishes and tolerances. Contribute to a productive, organized, and efficient shop environment on 2nd shift. Essential Skills Proven experience in structural welding and metal fabrication within a production or shop environment. Proficiency in MIG and stick welding techniques using 3/32 and 0.45 wire on structural steel. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, technical drawings, and welding symbols. Hands-on experience with structural steel, MIG structural welding, and fabrication work. Skilled use of oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutters, grinders, and common welding shop power tools. Strong blueprint reading and fitting skills to ensure accurate assembly of structural components. Solid understanding of flux core welding processes and production welding practices. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, code-compliant welds. Effective problem-solving skills to address fit-up, distortion, and fabrication challenges. Physical stamina and ability to work in challenging environments, including at heights and in a large production facility. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a structural steel production facility or similar industrial setting. Comfort collaborating with engineers, fabricators, and construction teams to achieve project objectives. Ability to maintain and troubleshoot welding equipment and shop tools to support continuous operations. Willingness to work 2nd shift and adapt to evolving production lines and processes. Strong safety mindset and familiarity with industry safety standards and shop protocols. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a large structural steel production facility in El Mirage, AZ, with work performed both inside the shop and outdoors as needed. The environment is industrial and active, with organized work areas, structural steel lines, and ongoing additions of new production lines. The facility uses swamp coolers and fans to provide a somewhat climate-controlled workspace, supporting comfort during varying weather conditions. You will work with welding equipment such as MIG and stick welders, oxy-acetylene torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and other common welding shop tools in a production-focused setting. The atmosphere is safety-conscious and team-oriented, with an emphasis on efficient workflow and proper use of personal protective equipment and appropriate workwear for a steel fabrication shop. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Mirage, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
