Job Description
- Job Title: Travel Welder
- Job Description
- This role focuses on production welding in a high-volume manufacturing environment, assembling and welding a variety of metal parts and components.
You will perform MIG, TIG, or stick welding, operate overhead cranes safely, and work from blueprints and written instructions to produce consistent, high-quality welds. The position requires strong attention to detail, accurate use of measuring devices, and the flexibility to train and work in different areas of production as demand shifts.
- Responsibilities
- + Pass a weld test and meet all welding requirements prior to starting production work.
+ Operate overhead cranes safely to move and position materials and welded assemblies.
+ Adjust weld configurations as needed to meet specifications and production requirements.
+ Heat and form metal parts and components using hand tools, torches, and welding equipment.
+ Perform welding in flat, vertical, and overhead positions, adapting to different setups and tasks.
+ Accurately operate and read measuring devices, such as tape measures, to verify dimensions and tolerances.
+ Assemble, fit, and weld various metal parts together according to blueprints and work instructions.
+ Properly position materials and parts to be welded, ensuring correct alignment and fit prior to welding.
+ Use grinding and fitting techniques to prepare joints and finish welded assemblies.
+ Follow verbal and written work instructions, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
+ Train and work in various areas of production in response to changing production demands.
+ Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to meet daily production goals.
+ Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with established procedures, rules, and regulations.
+ Demonstrate strong attention to detail to produce consistent, high-quality welds and assemblies.
+ Participate in production welding of the same parts and lifts on a daily basis, maintaining consistency and efficiency.
- Essential Skills
- + Ability to pass a weld test and meet all welding requirements.
+ Proficiency in MIG, TIG, or stick welding.
+ Minimum of 6+ months of welding experience, either through education or work.
+ Ability to weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
+ Skill in heating and forming metal parts and components using hand tools, torches, or welding equipment.
+ Experience operating overhead cranes in a safe manner.
+ Ability to accurately operate and read measuring devices, including tape measures.
+ Capability to assemble, fit, and weld various metal parts together.
+ Ability to properly position material and parts to be welded.
+ Competence in reading and interpreting blueprints and following verbal and written work instructions.
+ Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
+ Ability to work in both team-based and individual settings.
+ Willingness to train and work in various areas of production as needed.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- + Welding certificate through an educational institution is preferred.
+ Completion of weld school is a plus. + 1+ year of welding experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
+ Experience with production welding, working on the same parts or lifts repeatedly.
+ Familiarity with grinding, fitting, and assembly processes related to welding.
+ Comfort working in a large weld department alongside a sizable workforce.

- Work Environment
- The weld department operates in a large-scale production setting with approximately 300 employees, aiming to grow to around 400 to be fully staffed.
The environment centers on production welding, where the same parts and lifts are welded daily, creating a repetitive but stable workflow. Team members are expected to work both independently and collaboratively, contributing to a culture that values reliability, cooperation, and adaptability. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe footwear, and a clean work shirt to support safety and professionalism on the shop floor. Multiple shifts are available, including 1st shift (7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.), and 3rd shift (11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.), with a $1.75 shift differential offered for 2nd and 3rd shift work.

- This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
- Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $30.
00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
