Job Description
Welder / Fabricator $26 an hour This role focuses on MIG and related welding processes to fabricate structural components used in bridge and highway infrastructure. You will work in dedicated welding bays, performing high-quality welds on carbon steel components while following detailed blueprints and weld symbols. The position combines hands-on welding, material preparation, measurement, and inspection, with opportunities to gain certifications and cross-train in additional welding techniques. Responsibilities Perform MIG and related welding processes (including flux core and metal core arc welding) primarily on carbon steel components. Weld splicing plates, rails, steel beams, beam connectors, expansion joints, barring joints, and other structural parts according to specifications. Work in designated welding bays, maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area. Weld on cold rolled grade 50 steel in primarily horizontal and flat positions. Prepare steel surfaces by cleaning and prepping with wire brushes, sandpaper, and angle grinders prior to welding. Use micrometers or calipers to inspect weld quality and verify dimensions. Measure and mark material using a tape measure and cut stock to the required length. Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings to determine weld size, length, and placement. Apply shop math to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions for accurate measurements and layout. Weld on various material thicknesses, most commonly 2 1/2 inches and as thin as 1/4 inch, ensuring proper penetration and bead appearance. Perform fillet welds and other weld types as required by the job specifications. Operate grinders and other finishing tools to clean and dress welds as needed. Assist in material handling and learn to operate overhead cranes to safely move parts and assemblies. Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and safe operation of tools and equipment. Participate in training to obtain certifications such as 2G, D15, and D1.1 as required by the work. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and quality standards. Support retrofit and fabrication work on existing components as needed. Complete weld tests and quality checks as required during the hiring and onboarding process. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Baltimore, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
