Job Title:
Welder Job Description This role focuses on MIG welding structural steel components in a professional fabrication shop, contributing to large-scale structural steel assemblies for major construction projects. You will read blueprints and weld symbols, fit and tack structural members, and perform high-quality MIG and flux core welding while supporting safe material handling throughout the plant. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on structural steel components using a wire feed gun in accordance with project specifications. Read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols to determine weld locations, sizes, and procedures. Fit up and align structural steel members based on welding blueprints to ensure accurate assembly. Perform fabrication tasks including fitting, tack welding, and structural assembly preparation. Use flux core welding processes as needed to complete structural welds on various assemblies. Assist with unloading and moving structural beams and parts throughout the plant using an overhead crane and rigging equipment. Inspect welds visually to confirm quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications. Maintain a clean and organized weld area, including proper handling of tools, equipment, and materials. Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE while working in the weld and fabrication shop. Collaborate with other welders, fitters, and fabrication staff to meet production schedules and quality standards. Essential Skills At least 2 years of recent MIG welding experience. At least 2 years of recent structural steel welding experience. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and weld symbols. Hands-on experience using a MIG wire feed gun for structural steel welding. Ability to perform structural welding, including fit up, tack welding, and fabrication work. Knowledge of structural welding practices and weld shop operations. Capability to assist with rigging and moving structural beams using an overhead crane. Strong attention to detail and commitment to weld quality and structural integrity. Ability to follow safety procedures and use appropriate PPE in a fabrication environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a weld shop or structural steel fabrication environment. Back ground in flux core welding on structural components. Comfort working with large structural assemblies and complex fabrication layouts. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-driven fabrication setting. Strong sense of accountability, craftsmanship, and pride in finished work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Merritt Island, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
