Marine Electrician Lead - Career Opportunity - San Diego, CA Job Description The Marine Electrician Lead supports supervisors by leading a crew performing electrical work in and around ships. This role focuses on inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling electrical equipment on marine vessels while ensuring work quality, safety, and compliance with Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) standards. The Marine Electrician Lead provides hands-on technical expertise, guides less experienced team members, and helps coordinate work to meet production and project goals. Responsibilities Lead and assist a crew performing electrical work in and around ships on marine equipment and systems. Inspect, correct, repair, and overhaul electrical equipment on marine vessels, ensuring safe and reliable operation. Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctioning electrical equipment, identify replacement needs or new materials, and develop a logical approach to resolve issues. Install updated electrical equipment and systems, ensuring proper integration and functionality. Plan and execute the layout, installation, and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels. Review and interpret wiring diagrams, drawings, and written instructions to perform emergency and scheduled repairs. Calibrate, service, and replace electronic devices and systems as required. Lay out, pull, lift, and install cables and conduit to support electrical installations and repairs. Test electrical equipment and low- and high-voltage circuit systems for safety and compliance with Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Standard Items. Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning electrical equipment to restore normal operation. Attend production, planning, and progress meetings as needed to coordinate work and communicate status. Ensure adherence to all safety practices and procedures, promoting a safe working environment for the crew. Support and provide on-the-job training and technical guidance to employees, helping develop their skills and knowledge. Demonstrate reliability by appearing for work on time and following directions from supervisors. Interact professionally with co-workers, follow work rules and procedures, and comply with corporate policies, goals, and objectives. Accept constructive feedback, establish personal goals and objectives, and exhibit initiative and commitment to continuous improvement. Perform other duties as assigned, requested, or needed to support project and organizational requirements. Essential Skills Extensive experience in electrical work on marine or shipboard systems, with 8-10+ years of experience (military, marine, or ship repair industry preferred). Strong electrical troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues in marine electrical equipment and systems. Proficiency in electrical installation, including wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels. Hands-on experience with electrical repairs on marine equipment and rotating machinery. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings. Demonstrated experience testing low- and high-voltage circuits and equipment in accordance with applicable standards, including NAVSEA Standard Items. Capability to lay out, pull, lift, and install cables and conduit safely and efficiently. Experience calibrating, servicing, and replacing electronic devices and systems. Ability to lead and guide a crew, including providing on-the-job training and technical support. High School diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent education and experience. Strong adherence to safety practices and procedures in shipyard and marine environments. The standard schedule is a first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the expectation of flexibility for overtime from Monday through Saturday as needed, including potential 10-hour workdays. The environment is hands-on and technical, involving the use of electrical testing equipment, tools for cable and conduit installation, and other standard electrician and marine trade tools. Uniforms are provided, and appropriate safety footwear and prescription safety glasses are supported through company programs, reinforcing a safety-focused culture in the workplace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
