$22 - $24 per hour Job Description This role supports high-priority U.S. Navy corrosion mitigation and ship repair projects by performing shipboard preservation, painting, and related industrial marine work. You will work aboard active Navy vessels and in shipyard environments, preparing and coating a variety of surfaces to NAVSEA standards while supporting composite component installation and ship systems maintenance. The position offers immediate engagement on a large-scale Navy initiative with meaningful impact on fleet readiness and long-term operational performance. Responsibilities Perform shipboard painting, touch-ups, and preservation on a variety of structures and components in accordance with NAVSEA standards. Prepare surfaces by sanding, grinding, chipping, needle gunning, masking, and cleaning to ensure proper adhesion of coatings and primers. Assist technicians with coating application, including mixing, handling, and applying marine coatings, primers, and preservation materials. Apply coatings, primers, and preservation materials inside ship tanks, bilges, voids, and other confined compartments as directed. Support material handling activities, including moving equipment, supplies, and coatings safely around shipboard and shipyard areas. Work aboard ships, piers, dry docks, and industrial marine facilities while following strict safety protocols and site-specific procedures. Operate JLG manlifts and forklifts as assigned, if qualified, to access work areas and support material movement. Follow confined space entry procedures when working in tanks, voids, and other restricted areas, including adherence to watchstander guidance. Perform cleanup activities, including removal of debris, masking, and spent materials, to maintain safe and organized workspaces. Essential Skills Shipboard painting experience with the ability to perform preservation, coating, sanding, prepping, and masking on Navy vessels. Shipboard paint experience with 2+ years preferred in marine or shipyard environments. Hands-on experience with marine painting, paint preparation, touch-up painting, and shipyard preservation work. Ability to apply coatings, primers, and preservation materials inside ship tanks, bilges, voids, and other compartments. Understanding of marine coating processes, including surface preparation, grinding, sanding, masking, and cleanup activities. Ability to work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and in industrial marine environments. Experience working in shipyards, ship repair, or industrial/manufacturing settings. Comfort working in a Navy shipboard and shipyard industrial environment with high-tempo schedules. Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand for extended periods, and operate basic pneumatic and electric tools. Willingness and ability to work overtime and weekends as required to meet project demands. Ability to follow strict safety protocols, NAVSEA standards, and confined space entry procedures.
