Job Description

Marine Service Advisor — Glen Craft Marina, Glen Arbor, MI $23
  • 27/hour + incentive compensation _ Year-round Full-time_ About Glen Craft Marina Glen Craft Marina has been a fixture on Glen Lake for decades, serving boaters with sales, service, storage, and rentals.
We're a growing, locally-owned operation investing in systems, people, and accountability — a great environment for someone who wants their work to matter and their results to be visible. The Role We're hiring a Service Advisor to be the customer-facing point of contact for our service department. You'll own each repair order from the moment a customer calls in through final billing and payment — translating between customers and technicians, keeping work flowing, and making sure every job is invoiced accurately and promptly. What makes this role different from most service advisor positions: our customer base is stable, long-tenured, and relationship-driven. Many of our customers have stored their boats with us for decades. We're not looking for someone who "processes ROs" — we're looking for someone who builds real relationships with customers who will be part of our business for years to come. This is a year-round position with hours that flex to match business demand: heavier in the spring/summer rush (April-September) and lighter in the winter off-season. Annual hours typically land around 1,800-2,080 depending on schedule preference and business needs. What You'll Do Write and manage repair orders in our DMS (Lightspeed Evo) — capturing customer concerns, authorizing work, and tracking progress from intake to delivery Own the billing side of every RO — review technician labor, verify parts, apply the correct rates, and produce clear, accurate invoices Manage accounts receivable tied to your ROs — collect at pickup, follow up on open balances, and keep service AR aging in good shape Build lasting relationships with our long-tenured customer base — they should know you by name, and you should know their boats, their schedules, and their preferences Communicate with customers by phone, email, and in person — estimate approvals, status updates, completion notifications, and the occasional tough conversation Coordinate with technicians and the parts department to keep jobs moving and surface scheduling conflicts before they become problems Schedule service appointments across the season — balancing emergency work, contracted storage customers, and walk-ins What We're Looking For Customer service backbone — you can deliver unwelcome news (delays, cost overruns, bad diagnostics) without losing the customer Relationship-builder — you enjoy getting to know people and remembering the details that matter to them Organized and detail-oriented — our customers expect accurate invoices and we expect you to catch errors before they do Comfortable with technology — you'll live in a DMS, email, and spreadsheets; prior experience with Lightspeed, CDK, Reynolds, or similar is a plus Calm under pressure — the weeks around Memorial Day and Labor Day are intense Writing and typing speed — you'll be typing a lot of RO narratives and customer emails Basic mechanical curiosity — you don't need to turn a wrench, but you should be willing to learn enough to communicate accurately between customers and technicians Nice to Have (Not Required) Prior experience as a service advisor, writer, or service coordinator in marine, auto, powersports, or heavy equipment Familiarity with boats, outboards, sterndrives, or marine systems Bookkeeping, AR, or billing experience
