This position requires knowledge of minority cultures and heritage as well as knowledge of the local community and the various services available to the migrant and minority community. This position requires the skill to understand and follow both oral and written instructions in an independent manner; read and write at a sufficient level for successful performance of required duties; effectively communicate in both oral and written form (with fluency in foreign language helpful); maintain routine records and prepare reports; plan and organize required activities according to stated policies and objectives; persuade and motivate individuals and groups; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties. This position requires the ability to assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating the parent community involvement programs; contact various local community service agencies to explain migrant and other programs, analyze family school needs, and to learn what services are available in school and community; participate in District parent involvement activities; establish and maintain records of activities, home visits, meetings, and prepare necessary reports; work with minority students to enhance academic performance and extra-curricular participation; participate in District Community Advisor meeting as necessary; perform related duties as required. Successful applicants must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License. Completion of the twelfth grade is required, preferably supplemented by college level courses in the areas of sociology and school/community relations. Successful experience and first-hand knowledge in working with minority groups is required.BILINGUAL PREFERRED A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, AS WELL AS A CURRENT COPY OF DMV DRIVING RECORD. DUTIES OF POSITION
Acts as a liaison between migrant program, minorities, schools, migrant and minority parents, and community services. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision from a school site administrator within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures. This job classification is responsible for providing information and communication links with minority groups and must exercise initiative and possess communication skills in foreign languages.STARTING SALARY
