Position Summary The Family Support Specialist provides nonclinical peer-based support to friends and family members of loved ones who are affected by substance use. This role strengthens wellness, increases understanding of recovery, and helps families navigate resources. The Family Support Specialist uses lived experience, training, and peer values to support families through one-on-one meetings, group programming, community outreach, and education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide one-on-one peer support to family members and caregivers seeking help, hope, and connection. Facilitate or co-facilitate support groups and educational workshops for families. Share lived experience in a way that promotes empowerment and healing. Support participants in identifying strengths, setting goals, and developing wellness or recovery support plans. Provide information about recovery, stages of change, substance use, communication skills, and healthy boundaries. Connect families with community resources including counseling, support groups, harm reduction, recovery programs, and wellness services. Promote person first, recovery-oriented language and uphold AFRC values in all interactions. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with grant and organizational standards. Participate in supervision, staff meetings, professional development, and community events. Collaborate with other AFRC team members and external partners to expand family support programming. Represent AFRC in a professional, compassionate, and inclusive manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Personal lived experience supporting a family member or loved one affected by substance use or mental health, with strong personal wellness. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work respectfully with people from diverse communities and backgrounds. Basic computer skills and the ability to complete documentation in a timely manner. Preferred Certified Colorado Peer and Family Specialist (CPFS). Experience facilitating groups or providing family peer support. Familiarity with Colorado's behavioral health and recovery support services landscape. Bilingual (English/Spanish) or experience working with diverse populations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Work Environment and Schedule Work occurs in office, virtual, and community settings. Occasional evenings or weekends for meetings and events. Travel within Colorado may be required.
