A Director of Marketing Communications oversees the development and implementation of a strategic plan for a business or organization's combined communications and marketing program. Approve marketing programs and direct internal and external communications. Provide strategic leadership.
The Director of Communications advances Wartburg Theological Seminary's mission through strategic marketing, branding, and communications initiatives. This role leads institutional and departmental communication efforts across web, social media, digital, print, and other marketing channels to strengthen awareness, engagement, and support for the seminary.
Major Responsibilities:
Develop and implement annual institutional communication and integrated marketing plans aligned with Wartburg's mission and strategic priorities. Partner with key departments, including Vocation and Formation and Development, to create and execute communication, marketing, and brand awareness strategies. Monitor and report communication and marketing analytics; adjust strategies to meet organizational goals. Serve as executive editor and administrator of the seminary website. Create and manage content for digital and print publications, including social media, newsletters, magazines, donor communications, and alumni outreach. Lead social media strategy and audience engagement efforts. Manage vendor relationships, printing services, and outsourced communications projects. Coordinate photography and other visual assets for marketing purposes. Support event promotion and communications, including registration information, marketing materials, and technology coordination. Assist Development with fundraising appeals, solicitation materials, mailing lists, donor communications, and special events. Support Commencement, alumni events, worship services, and other institutional initiatives through communication and design services. Perform other duties as assigned.

None Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design or a related field. Minimum three years of experience in communications, marketing, branding, graphic design, or a related area.
Skills Required:
Strong project management skills with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Demonstrated creativity and innovation in communications and marketing. Excellent written, verbal, editing, and storytelling abilities. Experience creating and managing digital and print communications. Proficiency with social media platforms and communication strategies. Experience with graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of WordPress and/or HTML Basic photography and video editing skills Ability to manage vendors and external partnerships. Collaborative and service-oriented approach Knowledge of theological education or the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is preferred. Experience with fundraising communications and direct-mail appeals is preferred.
Work Environment:
This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and requires the regular use of computers, software applications, and standard office equipment.
