Job Description

General Summary The Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing - Digital Content is responsible for creating and managing digital content that supports Glen Oaks Community College's enrollment goals, strategic priorities, and community engagement efforts. The position focuses primarily on social media strategy, storytelling, content creation, and audience engagement, while also supporting the college website as an information, recruitment, and marketing platform. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing, this position plans, creates, publishes, and evaluates content across digital platforms and works collaboratively with departments throughout the college to identify and tell Glen Oaks stories. The position is expected to devote approximately 60% of its time to social media and digital content creation and 40% to website content and management. Regular on-campus presence is required, with occasional evening and weekend work for event coverage. Duties and Responsibilities Examples of duties performed by this position include: 1. Plan and manage the college's social media presence, including developing a strategic content calendar aligned with enrollment, academic programs, student experiences, workforce development, events, and institutional priorities. 2. Create, write, edit, schedule, and publish engaging digital content, including photography, video, graphics, short-form video, and written stories for social media and other digital platforms. 3. Identify and develop stories from across the college, including students, employees, academic programs, athletics, events, alumni, workforce development, and community partnerships. 4. Monitor social media channels, engage with audiences, coordinate responses when appropriate, and help manage the college's online reputation. 5. Monitor social media trends, platform changes, audience behavior, and performance data and recommend opportunities to improve content and engagement. 6. Manage and update assigned website content, ensuring information is accurate, clear, accessible, current, and consistent with college brand standards. 7. Write and edit website content and create or optimize webpages and landing pages supporting academic programs, student services, recruitment, events, and marketing campaigns. 8. Apply SEO, digital accessibility, and user experience best practices when creating and maintaining website content. 9. Review website content regularly to identify outdated information, broken links, accessibility concerns, and opportunities to improve the user experience. 10. Collaborate with departments across the college to gather information, develop content, and support institutional and marketing campaigns. 11. Use social media and website analytics to evaluate performance and recommend content and strategy improvements. 12. Use AI and other digital tools to support content development, creative production, research, and workflow efficiency while following college standards and responsible-use practices. 13. Maintain the college's brand, voice, visual identity, and editorial standards across assigned digital platforms. 14. Support college events and initiatives through digital promotion and coverage, including occasional evening and weekend assignments. 15. Manage multiple projects and deadlines and perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, digital media, graphic design, or a related field. 2. Minimum of two years of professional experience in social media management, digital content creation, marketing communications, or a related area. 3. Demonstrated experience managing organizational social media accounts and planning, creating, publishing, and evaluating digital content. 4. Experience creating written, photo, video, graphic, and/or multimedia content for digital platforms. 5. Experience creating or maintaining website content using a content management system. 6. Strong writing, editing, storytelling, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills. 7. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or comparable content creation tools. 8. Working knowledge of social media and website analytics, SEO, digital accessibility, and user experience principles. 9. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, work collaboratively across departments, and meet deadlines with limited supervision. 10. Ability to work regularly on campus and provide occasional evening or weekend event and social media coverage. Preferred Qualifications 11. Three or more years of relevant professional experience in social media, digital content, website content management, or marketing communications. 12. Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or another mission-driven organization. 13. Experience developing digital content or campaigns that support recruitment, enrollment, event attendance, lead generation, or other measurable goals. 14. Experience with Modern Campus CMS or a comparable content management system. 15. Knowledge of
ADA/WCAG
digital accessibility standards. 16. Experience using AI-assisted content creation, editing, research, or workflow tools. 17. Experience creating short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts, or similar channels.
