Serving Northeast Ohio, we help people obtain job skills and employment, locate safe and stable housing, access supportive services, and overcome barriers to secure second chances in the community. Position Summary Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry (LMM) is seeking an engaging professional Director of Communications to manage the agency's communications, marketing and public relations agenda. The Director serves as the organization's communications strategist and primary communications advisor to the Vice President of Development & Communications, President & CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and other organizational leaders. The position oversees crisis communications, media relations, organizational messaging, brand stewardship, external communications, digital communications, and organizational storytelling.
Some of the duties include:
Lead and implement LMM's integrated communications strategy, aligning organizational messaging with its mission, strategic priorities, annual goals, and fundraising objectives Serve as a strategic communications advisor to the President & CEO, Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and organizational leaders Lead media and public relations strategies that strengthen LMM's visibility, reputation, community presence, and position as a credible voice in its areas of expertise Build and maintain relationships with media, community partners, and other external stakeholders while identifying opportunities for earned media, speaking engagements, and organizational visibility Lead crisis and issues communications, providing strategic counsel and ensuring timely, accurate, consistent, and appropriate responses to emerging issues Oversee LMM's brand, organizational messaging, digital communications, social media, website, publications, marketing materials, and other external communications Develop and oversee compelling storytelling and communications campaigns that highlight LMM's impact and support organizational, programmatic, and fundraising priorities Provide strategic communications leadership for agency-wide events, public engagements, campaigns, and other high-visibility opportunities Directly supervise and develop the Communications Manager while managing communications priorities, resources, workflows, and organizational capacity Collaborate across departments and program leadership, to identify communications opportunities and ensure consistent messaging that advances LMM's mission and strategic priorities Qualifications The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in a related discipline and has at least five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, media relations, or marketing, preferably in a nonprofit setting. The successful candidate is a strategic communicator and confident spokesperson with experience in media relations, crisis communications, organizational messaging, and team leadership. Strong judgment, communication skills, and the ability to build effective relationships are essential. Donor engagement and fundraising communications experience are preferred. A valid Ohio driver's license and proof of insurance are required.
