Description:
The Community and Volunteer Engagement Manager is a strategic, supervisory role responsible for designing and leading AfriThrive's volunteer and community engagement systems. This role goes beyond coordination. It focuses on building scalable infrastructure that increases volunteer participation, strengthens community partnerships, and supports corporate engagement aligned with organizational growth and revenue goals. The position begins as part-time (20-25 hours/week) with a clear pathway to full-time within 12 months, based on performance and organizational growth.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Community and Volunteer Engagement Manager, you will lead and strengthen AfriThrive's volunteer and community engagement systems to ensure reliable program delivery, successful community events, and strong, sustained partnerships. You will build and oversee a structured volunteer program, supporting AfriThrive's food access, cultural farm, youth, school-based, and community initiatives. This includes guiding recruitment, training, and engagement of individual volunteers, corporate groups, and community partners. You will supervise and support the Volunteer Coordinator, ensuring effective day-to-day operations while improving systems, processes, and volunteer experience. You will collaborate with Program Operations and Development teams to align engagement with operational needs, grant requirements, and fundraising priorities, including supporting corporate volunteer engagement as part of broader partnership development efforts. You will also support AfriThrive's community events by ensuring strong volunteer coordination, partner engagement, and a welcoming, well-executed experience. Key Responsibilities Lead AfriThrive's community and volunteer engagement strategy across all programs Build and steward partnerships to generate sustainable volunteer pipelines Oversee and optimize the full volunteer lifecycle (recruitment through retention) Supervise and develop the Volunteer Coordinator Design and manage corporate volunteer engagement to support partnership and sponsorship growth Ensure effective volunteer deployment across programs, events, and high-volume service days Develop volunteer retention and leadership pathways (ambassadors, team leads) Ensure compliance with safety, food handling, and risk management standards Track and report engagement data (Salesforce) to support impact measurement and grant reporting Collaborate cross-functionally to align engagement with program delivery and fundraising goals
Requirements:
3-5+ years of experience in volunteer management, community engagement, nonprofit programs, or a related field Experience supervising staff, coordinating teams, or leading volunteers Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with community organizations, volunteers, and diverse stakeholders Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across programs and events Experience planning or supporting community events, volunteer activities, or group service projects Familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce or willingness to learn quickly Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage both grassroots community members and corporate partners Ability to work independently in a part-time role while taking ownership of systems, processes, and outcomes Comfortable working in a dynamic, growing organization with evolving systems and priorities Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends to support events and volunteer activities Ability to travel to program sites across Montgomery County and surrounding areas as needed Preferred Qualifications Experience working in food access, community-based, or culturally responsive programs Experience engaging corporate partners or managing corporate volunteer programs Prior experience supervising staff in a nonprofit or community-based setting Familiarity with volunteer tracking, reporting, or impact measurement.
Compensation & Benefits Salary Range:
$57,000 - $65,000 (full-time equivalent) Part-time salary will be prorated based on hours (20-25 hours/week). Final compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
