COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, supports the Community Services Division through the coordination of crime prevention programs, community engagement initiatives, public information and content creation, and administrative functions. Coordinates the activities of the Crime Free Coordinator, assists with the development and management of community programs, creates and maintains department-related digital content, and provides administrative support to the Community Services Division. Serves as a key point of communication between the police department, employees, community organizations, businesses, schools, and the public.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification provides coordinated administrative, communications, and community engagement support within the Community Services Division. The position combines program coordination, public information and content development, community outreach, and administrative responsibilities and requires the ability to manage multiple assignments, work independently, and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance in accordance with the assigned work schedule.
  • Coordinates Crime Free programs and crime prevention initiatives, including program documentation, participant communications, inspections, meetings, educational activities, and related records and reports.
  • Creates and coordinates professional written, photographic, graphic, video, social media, and other public-facing content highlighting department activities, programs, public safety information, training, accomplishments, and employee recognition.
  • Plans and supports community engagement activities, including events, meetings, presentations, outreach programs, and educational opportunities; develops and maintains relationships with businesses, schools, neighborhood groups, community organizations, and other partners.
  • Provides administrative support to the Community Services Division, including maintaining records and databases, preparing reports and presentations, coordinating meetings and training, tracking program activities and deadlines, and assisting with purchasing and other administrative processes.
  • Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.
ILLUSTRATIVE JOB TASKS
  • Coordinates activities and documentation associated with Crime Free programs and community safety initiatives.
  • Prepares program records, reports, presentations, correspondence, and informational materials.
  • Creates and maintains social media, photographic, graphic, video, and other public-facing content.
  • Coordinates with department personnel and community partners to gather information and support outreach activities.
  • Plans and supports community events, meetings, presentations, training activities, and educational opportunities.
  • Maintains content calendars, program files, databases, spreadsheets, and other administrative records.
  • Tracks program participation, activities, deadlines, and performance measures.
  • Uses productivity and creative software to prepare professional written and visual materials.
  • Represents the Community Services Division at approved community events and functions.
  • Responds professionally to employees, community members, businesses, schools, neighborhood organizations, and other external partners.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by up to one year of vocational, technical, or specialized training relevant to public safety or criminal justice.
Experience:
Over two years of related experience is required. Four or more years of related experience is preferred. Licenses; Certificates;
Special Requirements:
Must obtain National Crime Information Center and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC/ NCIC) certifications within 6 months of employment.
