Program Description:

The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) is a teaching hospital and visitor center dedicated to saving wildlife through state-of-the-art veterinary care, research, education and conservation medicine. CROW is seeking a candidate who is passionate about conservation and sharing awareness of our natural world. Through the Education and Communications Internship, the chosen applicant will engage audiences of all ages through informal education on the CROW campus and offsite into the greater Lee County area. The intern will work alongside CROW's Education and Outreach Coordinator to develop programming for kids and seniors alike. For the Spring Internship of 2027, the intern can expect to visit local schools, libraries, and independent living communities to share CROW's mission to protect our native wildlife through veterinary medicine, research, and education. CROW will also attend offsite events with a table setup and an ambassador animal. In January, CROW hosts a major fundraising event: 'WILD about CROW'. The intern will support preparation for WILD, as well as during the event itself. In June, CROW hosts a K-12th grade weekly summer camp that the intern will take an active role in planning and leading. The chosen intern will become familiar with CROW's mission and the patients of CROW through visiting the clinic and assisting in the daily care of the Visitor Center ambassador animals. To support this, the candidate must be willing to handle live reptiles, including snakes, during animal care and programming. The intern should be aware that the clinic is a working wildlife hospital that might upset those with needle or animal phobias.

Pay and Benefits:

Full-time (40+ hours/week): $600/month ($300/2 weeks) 3 Paid Days Off (PTO)

Holiday Paid Time Off Housing:

CROW students are given the opportunity to live in on-site housing free of cost as long as space allows.

Intern Tasks and Responsibilities:

Animal care and husbandry (will be trained) Present programs to small and large groups Guide daily tours of CROW's campus Program development Assist in photo taking for social media and advertising Open and close the Visitor Education Center Docent in the education center Assist in the gift shop Practice minor treatments on ambassador animals (i.e., soaking reptiles to promote shedding) Assist with fundraiser events Other duties as assigned

Usual Work Week:

Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm (1 hour lunch) Saturdays as Needed (3-6 in the term)

Eligibility:

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited university or college program at the undergraduate or graduate level OR be a recent college graduate to be eligible for CROW's Conservation Education Internship.
