Professional Rowan University seeks a Social Media Community Engagement Specialist to join our Social Media Team within the Division of Marketing & Communication. This full-time position will meet the growing needs for community management and social media content creation to support the University's brand.
Description:
The selected candidate will work within a collaborative environment, reporting directly to and receiving day-to-day guidance from the Associate Director of Social Media. The candidate will also work alongside a team of digital content creators and Marketing & Communication staff, reporting to Rowan University's Associate Vice Chancellor. This position requires a creative social media professional with ability to identify reputational risk posed by social media exposure and expertise in mitigation, with all efforts focused on protecting Rowan University and best positioning the organization's brand promise. The candidate will also demonstrate expertise in content development, as well as the ability to leverage technology and data to engage constituents through strategic, forward-thinking approaches. In addition, this role requires superior written and verbal communication skills, as the Social Media Community Management Specialist will collaborate with members of the Division of Marketing & Communication and other key communicators across the University. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Monitoring, engaging and interacting with the University's social media communities on a daily basis and serving as an extension of the campus experience as it relates to customer service. Creating content for a 365-day social media content calendar for message propagation across all Rowan University social media platforms, as well as developing new messages in real-time based on current events, while adhering to the University's voice and standards of image/message consistency. Recruiting and supervising a team of social media student workers by training them in using our community management software and adhering to the University's voice. Assisting in communication support by collaborating with campus partners consistently regarding breaking news, crisis communication and other announcements while identifying and escalating potential reputational risks to Marketing & Communication leadership. Researching and implementing the latest industry social media best practices, and defining new and creative approaches to communicating via social media outlets. Supporting the Associate Director of Social Media in the reinforcement of a social media policy and social media graphic standards. Support content creation at major University events and brand activations on an as needed basis.
SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field. Two years professional experience Proven experience creating and strategizing content for social media (portfolio or examples required). Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work closely with students and cross-departmental teams. Experience with Sprout Social. Public affairs/public relations experience, with crisis communication experience a plus. Strong understanding of social media platforms and their algorithms, particularly TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and organizational skills. Skillful in creative problem solving and resolving conflict Flexibility to work evenings or weekends for event coverage, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in higher education or with Gen Z audiences. Exceptional storytelling, photography, videography, and editing skills. Proficiency in mobile content creation and editing tools such as CapCut, InShot, and similar apps. Familiarity with cameras and production equipment is a plus.
Salary & Benefits:
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is
AFT:
Range 21 ($63,833 to $73,416), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors. For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4
A:
3-4.9 & 4.10).
