Public Relations and Communication Specialist (part-time) Reports to: Superintendent of Schools Prepared by: Superintendent of Schools Date reviewed: May 11, 2026 Part-Time Public Relations & Communications Specialist (.25 FTE) Position Summary We are seeking a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Part-Time Public Relations & Communications Specialist to support our organization's internal and external communications efforts. This role is responsible for developing content, managing media relations, supporting brand messaging, and helping maintain a positive public image across multiple communication channels. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator who can manage multiple projects, work independently, and collaborate effectively with team members and external stakeholders. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field preferred 2+ years of experience in public relations, communications, marketing, or media relations Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Strong editing and proofreading abilities Experience with social media platforms and content management tools Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities Proficiency in Google Workspace, and experience working on/ updated webpages Experience with graphic design or email marketing tools is a plus Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check certificate eligibility required Duties and Responsibilities Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, newsletters, and public statements Assist with media outreach and maintain relationships with local and industry media contacts Create and edit content for websites, blogs, social media, and marketing materials Support communication campaigns and public relations initiatives Monitor media coverage and prepare reports on communication performance and engagement Help maintain brand consistency across all communications platforms Assist with internal communications and staff announcements as needed Manage communication calendars and deadlines Respond to public inquiries and support community engagement efforts Strong storytelling and content creation abilities Compensation & Benefits 10 hours/ week Hourly rate: $35•40/hour based on experience Flexible scheduling Opportunity for hybrid/remote work Professional development opportunities Collaborative and mission-driven work environmentPosition Type:
