Job Summary The Communications & Marketing Specialist tells the story of the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation (SCAF) and connects donors, nonprofits, fundholders, and community members with opportunities to strengthen our community. This position serves as SCAF's primary communications and content specialist, creating engaging and consistent communications across print and digital platforms. Responsibilities include donor and nonprofit newsletters, website content, donor communications, fundraising campaigns, fund marketing, impact storytelling, and other communications that increase awareness of SCAF and inspire local philanthropy. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and storyteller who can take complex information and turn it into clear, engaging communications for a variety of audiences. Key Responsibilities Communications & Storytelling
- Write and coordinate SCAF's monthly newsletters.
- Develop stories highlighting donors, fundholders, grantees, scholarship recipients, nonprofit partners, and community impact.
- Write and edit website content, articles, donor communications, appeals, brochures, presentations, press releases, and other materials.
- Maintain a consistent, approachable, and professional SCAF voice across communications. Donor & Fund Marketing
- Develop communications that strengthen relationships with current and prospective donors.
- Create donor stewardship, impact, and giving communications.
- Market SCAF funds and charitable giving opportunities, including endowed funds, scholarship funds, recurring giving, planned giving, and other giving options.
- Support fund launches, donor campaigns, annual appeals, and other fundraising initiatives. Digital & Marketing Communications
- Maintain and regularly update SCAF website content.
- Coordinate email marketing, audience lists, and electronic communications.
- Develop all marketing materials.
- Create & manage social media communications.
- Develop an annual communications calendar coordinating campaigns, newsletters, programs, events, grant and scholarship cycles, and other Foundation activities.
- Monitor communications results and identify opportunities to improve engagement and reach. Collaboration & Brand Management
- Work with SCAF staff to identify stories, statistics, photographs, and other information demonstrating community impact.
- Ensure consistency of SCAF's brand, messaging, and visual identity.
- Coordinate with designers, printers, photographers, website providers, media partners, and other vendors as needed. General Responsibilities
- Collaborate with staff to ensure effective communication and coordination across SCAF programs and events.
- Maintain confidentiality related to applicants, scholarship recipients, grantees, donors, and Foundation activities.
- Provide occasional administrative or event support during busy program periods.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director in support of SCAF's mission and programs. Required Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, nonprofit development, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to write effectively for donors, nonprofits, businesses, and the general public.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with email, shared documents, spreadsheets, online meeting tools, website management, and presentation tools. (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Constant Contact, Zoom, Canva, Adobe)
- Ability to learn new database and program-management systems.
- Proficiency in managing social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn).
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small-team environment.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Preferred qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit communications, fundraising, philanthropy, or a community foundation.
- Experience with email marketing platforms, website content-management systems, CRM/donor databases, and communications analytics.
- Photography, basic video, or graphic-design experience.
- Knowledge of the Stanwood-Camano community and regional nonprofit sector.
