Summary of Position We are seeking a versatile, innovative, data-driven audience growth and content strategy leader to deepen audience engagement, expand reach and drive digital culture and growth across platforms. This role is pivotal to shaping our editorial strategies and ensuring our journalism meets readers where they are — with relevance, impact and precision. You must easily collaborate across editorial, video, social and newsletters teams to develop content strategies tailored to audience behaviors and platform-specific needs. You'll apply analytics to guide decision-making, develop engagement plans and optimize content for discoverability. You are a leader in innovation — be that advocating for new interactive storytelling tools and products or identifying opportunities to deploy AI tools to streamline workflows. You play a central role in customer retention and loyalty strategies — building stronger, longer-lasting relationships with our readers and viewers. Essential Duties & Functions Digital strategy: Manage daily digital operations and execution of our journalism across platforms. Develops and executes cross-platform audience growth strategies to drive reach, engagement and retention. Use data and analytics to inform content planning and programming, from what leads our homepage to how our coverage is delivered via mobile alerts, email newsletters and other products. Oversees digital engagement plans and workflows.
Collaboration:
Partner with editors, reporters and producers to plan, create and edit audience-focused enterprise/projects that align with audience needs and platform best practices. You'll ensure timely execution, editorial quality and measurable impact, and brand consistency across channels. Plan and enhance editorial roadmaps to ensure our journalism hits across search, social, video and emerging platforms. Work closely with newsroom editors to shape in-the-moment coverage strategy. Collaborate with social/video/email newsletters colleagues to enhance storytelling. Ensures digital staff development.
Innovation and vision:
Bring new ideas and develop and support new editorial initiatives targeting niche audiences via on-site experiences, interactive storytelling and new products. You'll coordinate resources working through the new product lifecycle. Familiarity with quickfire ideation, financial modeling and assessing ROI is a plus. Stay familiar with industry trends and apply new ways of thinking and executing on our mission. Essential Job Knowledge & Skills Proven experience in digital publishing, editing, content strategy, audience development and engagement Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail Strong leadership with ability to lead and coach teams through change and an evolving newsroom Track record in growing digital audience Have concept-to-ROI thinking Excellent communication and collaborative skills across departments, with a focus on translating ideas into actionable strategies Strong analytical skills with experience in tools like Parsley, Google Analytics, Marfeel or similar to inform strategy and decision-making SEO, social media and newsletter strategy Compensation The salary range for this role is $150 - 155k, commensurate with experience.
