Job Description
Overview We are seeking a creative bilingual Mandarin-English Social Media Video Creator / Editor to help produce engaging short-form video content focused primarily on law, legal education, interesting cases, and current legal issues . This position is ideal for someone who enjoys creating content for Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book / 小红书), TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts and also has a genuine interest in law. Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English is required. You do not need to be a lawyer or have prior legal work experience. However, an interest in law, criminal justice, legal cases, public policy, or current legal issues is important because you will be helping turn legal topics into short, interesting, easy-to-understand videos. This is a great opportunity for a college or graduate student interested in both social media/video production and the legal field . Responsibilities Film and edit short-form vertical videos for Xiaohongshu, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts Work with an attorney to turn legal topics and case-related issues into engaging social media content Add Mandarin and/or English captions, text overlays, graphics, music, transitions, and other appropriate effects Help develop attention-grabbing openings, hooks, titles, and content concepts Translate or adapt content between Mandarin Chinese and English when appropriate Help make complicated legal concepts understandable and interesting to a general audience Identify current social media trends and suggest ways to apply them to legal content Repurpose longer recordings into multiple short-form videos Assist with filming in Palo Alto as needed Help develop a consistent visual and content style across social media platforms Required Qualifications Fluent in spoken Mandarin Chinese and English Strong written Chinese and English communication skills Experience filming and/or editing short-form social media video Familiarity with Xiaohongshu, TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts Ability to use at least one video-editing platform such as: CapCut / 剪映 Adobe Premiere Pro Final Cut Pro DaVinci Resolve Good understanding of short-form video pacing, captions, music, visual presentation, and storytelling Comfortable filming with a smartphone and/or camera Able to come to Palo Alto for filming Reliable, organized, and able to work independently Strongly Preferred Genuine interest in law and legal issues Frequent user of Xiaohongshu / 小红书 Understanding of Chinese and U.S. social media styles and audiences Experience creating content for a personal, business, or organizational social media account College or graduate student in Film, Media, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Pre-Law, Legal Studies, Political Science, Criminal Justice , or a related field Interest in criminal law, high-profile cases, legal education, or current legal/social issues Experience creating bilingual Mandarin-English content What We Care About Most Formal film-school training is not required. We are primarily looking for someone who: Understands what makes people stop scrolling and watch a short video Has a good creative eye Knows Xiaohongshu and/or TikTok Can communicate naturally in both Mandarin and English Is genuinely interested in learning about and creating content involving the law Is willing to contribute ideas rather than simply edit footage For the right person, this can become an ongoing creative collaboration with increasing responsibility.
