Job Description

E-commerce Controller — Amazon FBA Accounting (On-site in La Verne, CA area) Maxplus International Inc. La Verne, CA Job Details Contract $29 - $100 an hour 10 hours ago Qualifications Tooling E-commerce B2B Sage 50 Accounting Bachelor's degree in accounting Full Job Description Summary E-commerce Controller — Job Description Maxplus International Inc. (SIPLUSH) Company Background SIPLUSH is a California-inspired hydration and wellness drinkware brand under Maxplus International Inc., based in La Verne, CA. Maxplus has traditionally operated as a B2B business (accounting on Peachtree/Sage 50), and is expanding into direct-to-consumer e-commerce through Amazon (FBA and Seller Fulfilled), with plans to grow into additional B2C channels. Why This Role Exists Our current accounting setup and staff were built for traditional B2B operations. As we've scaled Amazon FBA operations, we've run into recurring gaps: inventory that sits in Amazon's warehouse isn't accounted for the way inventory in our own warehouse is, Amazon's settlement reports don't map cleanly onto our existing books, and reconciling 1099-K figures, giveaways (Vine, social media), returns, and multi-SKU production costs requires e-commerce-specific knowledge our team doesn't currently have in-house. We need someone who can own this end-to-end — not just record numbers, but understand why FBA inventory, returns, and marketplace fees behave differently from traditional wholesale accounting, and translate that for our existing accounting team and external accountant. Key Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly/quarterly/annual close process for all e-commerce sales channels (currently Amazon; expanding to additional B2C channels)
  • Reconcile Amazon Seller Central data (Transaction Reports, Settlement/Summary Reports, 1099-K) against internal books, and investigate/explain discrepancies
  • Design and maintain the accounting logic for FBA inventory — tracking inventory shipped from our CA warehouse to Amazon FBA as a location transfer (not a sale), and recognizing revenue/COGS only when units actually sell
  • Track and account for non-standard sales activity: Amazon Vine giveaways, social media giveaways, promotional rebates, and customer returns, by SKU
  • Compile and maintain per-SKU production cost records (factory invoices, freight, packaging) and calculate landed unit costs for margin analysis
  • Serve as the liaison between Amazon/e-commerce operations and our accounting team/external accountant — translating e-commerce-specific reports and terminology into a format they can work with
  • Identify gaps in our current B2B-oriented accounting system (Peachtree/Sage 50) for handling multi-location, multi-channel e-commerce inventory, and recommend process or tooling improvements
  • Support year-end tax preparation by compiling complete, audit-ready sales, cost, and inventory summaries for all e-commerce channels Ideal Background
  • Experience with Amazon Seller Central operations and reporting (FBA, Settlement Reports, 1099-K, Brand Analytics)
  • E-commerce accounting or controller experience — comfortable with multi-channel inventory, COGS, and revenue recognition specific to online marketplaces
  • Familiarity with reconciling marketplace payout reports against a general ledger
  • Experience working alongside a traditional B2B accounting setup (Peachtree/Sage 50 or similar) is a plus, especially bridging that system with e-commerce-specific needs
  • Comfortable working independently and explaining e-commerce concepts clearly to non-e-commerce accounting staff What Success Looks Like Within the first few months, this person should be able to take over the kind of reconciliation and reporting work currently being done ad hoc — producing accurate, channel-by-channel sales and cost summaries without needing extensive back-and-forth, and building a repeatable annual (or more frequent, as the business scales) close process that our accounting team can rely on.
