Hourly ($30-$45/hr), based on experience About Monolith Monolith is a boutique handmade knife studio founded in 2013. We build custom and small-batch kitchen and folding knives by hand, working closely with chefs, collectors, and specialty retailers around the country. Our audience runs from home cooks drawn in by the story and craftsmanship, to professional chefs who need tools that perform under pressure. It's a small, hands-on operation, and we care as much about doing right by the people who carry our knives as we do about the knives themselves. Why This Role Monolith has a good foundation of support for bookkeeping, legal, and marketing/SEO. What we're missing is someone dedicated to running the business day to day: keeping production, inventory, relationships, sales and outreach on track. We're at a point where the business is ready to grow, and we need a business-minded operator to help get us there. What You'll Do Business Operations Help manage cashflow and reporting alongside our bookkeeper Set and manage timelines for production, sales, and growth goals Coordinate and manage inventory, jobs, and fulfillment with the production team Manage sales relationships with clients, retail partners, consignors, and suppliers Help maintain and improve our Shopify systems as we grow our e-commerce Maintain our Google Drive, help with basic IT needs, occasional compliance tasks Collaborate with Zack and Nick on marketing and business strategy Correspond with customers alongside Zack and Nick and uphold our excellent customer service What You Bring Experience in leading a small but growing business A good understanding of business operations, including sales strategies Strong organizational skills A strong, adaptable writer Comfortable with Shopify, G-suite, social platforms, and spreadsheets Experience in marketing, retail, e-commerce, and/or working with creatives or niche products and markets
Bonus:
photo or video editing skills The Workspace You'll have a dedicated desk and computer on-site, along with kitchenette access, onsite parking, at a personal residence in a rural setting with domestic and farm animals nearby. The office space is separated from the workshop. This is a business that makes things the old way, while running the business itself on modern, efficient systems. Expect to spend time around an active workshop; standard safety practices and provided PPE apply in those areas. Our Culture We're currently a small team of two, and we treat each other, our vendors, and our customers with respect. We don't tolerate hateful, discriminatory, or abusive behavior of any kind. We move fast, wear a lot of hats, and need someone who brings initiative and experience. We're looking forward to hearing from you.
