Job Description

The Content Lead is accountable for the strategic planning, writing, editing, and leadership of JAARS marketing content that helps audiences understand the mission, build trust, and take meaningful action. Working under the Director of Communications, this role brings a strong marketing mindset to translating growth, donor acquisition, and development priorities established by Communications and organizational leadership into focused content plans and coordinated donor journeys. The Content Lead supervises the copywriters, story producer, and social media manager while contributing hands-on marketing writing and editing, combining excellent editorial judgment with a strong understanding of how content engages audiences, cultivates donors, and advances fundraising goals. Position ResponsibilitiesContent Strategy & Planning This will be successfully performed when: Growth, donor acquisition, and development priorities established by Communications and organizational leadership are translated into clear, focused content plans and coordinated donor journeys, in partnership with the Director of Communications, VP of Marketing, and Development staff. The content calendar is led effectively, determining how stories and messages are developed across appeals, email, landing pages, web content, social media, articles, scripts, and other channels. Effective content workflows are established in partnership with the Director of Communications and other team leads. Content is coordinated across teams and channels to guide audiences from initial awareness through engagement and giving.
Relative Importance:
30% Marketing Fundraising Content Development This will be successfully performed when: Marketing and fundraising content — including headlines, offers, calls to action, donor framing, and audience-specific messaging — is written, edited, and strengthened to generate measurable action. Hands-on copy editing and final editorial review ensure content is accurate, compelling, concise, on brand, and suited to its intended audience and purpose. Appropriate standards for theological integrity, cultural sensitivity, dignity, accuracy, and organizational voice are consistently maintained.

35% Team Leadership & Development This will be successfully performed when: The content team — copywriters, story producer, and social media manager — is supervised, coached, and given clear direction and feedback. Strategy is translated into clear priorities, assignments, content plans, and editorial direction for the team.

20% Performance Analysis & Continuous Improvement This will be successfully performed when: Content and marketing performance data is reviewed regularly, with insights used to improve future content and overall marketing effectiveness.

Embrace the vision, mission, and core values of JAARS. Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, fundraising, advertising, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Demonstrated success writing or leading marketing, fundraising, direct-response, or donor-acquisition content designed to generate measurable action. Exceptional writing, editing, and messaging skills across print and digital channels. Strong understanding of audiences, donor motivation, offers, calls to action, conversion, and content performance. Experience leading or coaching writers, editors, social media staff, or other content creators. Ability to translate strategy into clear priorities, assignments, content plans, and editorial direction. Strong collaboration, judgment, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Pay:
From $60,000.00 per year
