Position Summary please email resume and portfolio to fcarvajal@lavernia-tx.gov The La Vernia Municipal Development District is seeking a motivated, creative, and dependable individual to serve as a Digital Marketing, Tourism & Events Intern. The primary focus of this position is to support Visit La Vernia through digital marketing, social media management, tourism promotion, community storytelling, content creation, and event marketing. The intern will also assist with Municipal Development District events, local business engagement, community initiatives, and selected economic development activities. The intern will work under the joint direction of the Executive Director and Community Engagement Coordinator and will be expected to maintain a consistent content schedule, contribute creative ideas, meet assigned deadlines, participate in community events, and represent the La Vernia Municipal Development District in a professional manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Digital Marketing and Social Media Assist with the daily management of Visit La Vernia social media platforms. Create and publish daily social media content for Visit La Vernia. Create and publish daily Instagram and Facebook Stories. Produce a minimum of two Reels or short-form videos each week. Produce at least one trend-focused Reel each week utilizing relevant social media trends, concepts, or audio. Produce at least one promotional Reel each week highlighting a local business, event, attraction, tourism initiative, community activity, or Visit La Vernia program. Develop photography, video, graphics, Reels, Stories, and other digital marketing content. Maintain an organized social media content calendar. Schedule approved social media content in advance when appropriate. Identify current social media trends and recommend opportunities for Visit La Vernia to participate in relevant trends. Maintain a consistent Visit La Vernia brand, voice, and visual identity. Monitor social media tags, mentions, comments, and user-generated content. Identify opportunities to engage with local businesses, residents, visitors, and community partners. Maintain and organize a digital library of photography and video content for future marketing use. Visit La Vernia Marketing Campaigns Assist with the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of Visit La Vernia marketing campaigns and tourism initiatives. Campaigns may include, but are not limited to: Pink Friday Christmas in La Vernia Restaurant Week Seasonal tourism campaigns Shop-local initiatives Event marketing campaigns Local business promotions Other Visit La Vernia programs and initiatives Responsibilities may include business outreach, content planning, photography, video production, graphics, social media scheduling, promotional materials, event coverage, campaign implementation, and post-campaign reporting. Analytics and Performance Reporting Assist with monitoring and evaluating Visit La Vernia social media performance. Track social media reach, engagement, follower growth, Reel and video views, and other relevant performance indicators. Identify top-performing content and emerging audience trends. Assist with preparing a monthly Visit La Vernia marketing and social media performance report. Review campaign performance and business participation when applicable. Provide recommendations for future content and marketing initiatives based on performance results. Assist with tracking website traffic, campaign clicks, and other available digital performance measures. "From La Vernia, For La Vernia" Career Stories The intern will work collaboratively with the Community Engagement Coordinator on the "From La Vernia, For La Vernia" Career Stories initiative. The program is designed to highlight La Vernia residents who have built meaningful careers within the community and to showcase a variety of career pathways available locally.

Responsibilities may include:

Identify potential individuals to feature. Assist with outreach and interview scheduling. Develop interview questions and story concepts. Conduct or assist with interviews. Capture photography and short-form video. Edit career spotlight videos. Develop accompanying social media content. Schedule and promote completed Career Stories. Assist with achieving the program goal of highlighting at least 12 local career success stories annually. The purpose of the program is to celebrate community talent, promote local career opportunities, foster community pride, and encourage young residents to consider building their futures in La Vernia. Influencer and Content Creator Engagement Research regional travel, food, lifestyle, family, community, and other relevant content creators. Identify creators whose audiences and content align with Visit La Vernia's tourism and marketing goals. Assist with outreach and invitations encouraging creators to visit La Vernia. Assist with developing creator itineraries featuring local restaurants, retailers, attractions, events, and community experiences. Coordinate with participating local businesses as needed. Provide creators with event information, tourism resources, suggested destinations, and other relevant materials. Encourage the creation of authentic social media content featuring La Vernia. Track creator visits, partnerships, and resulting content. Assist with identifying opportunities to reshare approved creator-generated content through Visit La Vernia platforms. Event Planning and Operations The intern will assist with the planning and implementation of La Vernia Municipal Development District and Visit La Vernia events.

Responsibilities may include:

Assist with event planning and preparation. Assist with vendor, participant, sponsor, performer, and community partner communication. Prepare event materials, signage, supplies, and informational materials. Assist with vendor and participant check-in. Assist with event setup and breakdown. Assist with event-day logistics and operations. Provide support to vendors and participants as needed. Assist staff with troubleshooting event needs. Perform other event-related responsibilities as assigned. Event Marketing and Content Coverage The intern will provide digital marketing and social media coverage during assigned community events.

Responsibilities include:

Capture photography and video throughout events. Create and publish live Instagram and Facebook Stories. Capture vendors, entertainment, sponsors, businesses, activities, and attendees. Collect behind-the-scenes content. Produce Reels and other short-form video content related to events. Gather photography and video for future event and tourism marketing. Assist with post-event content and promotional recaps.

Note:

Attendance at assigned community events is a required and essential function of this position. The intern must be available to work events held during evenings throughout the week and on weekends. Event schedules may vary based on Municipal Development District programs and community activities. Community and Professional Engagement As part of the internship, the intern may attend and participate in: Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce meetings Chamber ribbon cuttings Local business openings Community events Municipal Development District planning meetings Marketing and campaign planning meetings Event planning meetings Tourism-related meetings Selected economic development meetings Other community or professional networking activities as assigned or available The intern is expected to represent the La Vernia Municipal Development District and Visit La Vernia professionally when interacting with businesses, residents, visitors, vendors, community partners, elected officials, and other stakeholders. Economic Development Exposure While Visit La Vernia will remain the primary focus of the internship, the intern may assist with selected economic development and business engagement activities, including: Local business spotlights and features. New business and business-opening promotions. Tourism and visitor research. Community development marketing. Business and community promotional materials. Content supporting local business retention and promotion. Projects demonstrating the connection between tourism, community events, local businesses, and economic development. Capstone Project During the internship, the intern will complete a Visit La Vernia marketing capstone project. The project may consist of a tourism campaign, digital marketing initiative, content series, community storytelling project, or another approved Visit La Vernia initiative.

The capstone project will include:

Development of project goals. Identification of the intended audience. Development of a marketing or content strategy. Development of a marketing or content strategy. Project implementation. Performance tracking and evaluation. A final summary of results, lessons learned, and recommendations.

Qualifications:
  • Required Qualifications The successful candidate must: Demonstrate an interest in marketing, communications, public relations, tourism, events, social media, community engagement, or economic development. Be familiar with Instagram, Facebook, Reels, and short-form video content. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate creativity and the ability to develop original content ideas. Be organized, dependable, and capable of meeting deadlines. Be comfortable taking photography and video in public and community settings. Be comfortable communicating and interacting with businesses, residents, visitors, vendors, community partners, and other stakeholders. Be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Be receptive to direction, feedback, and revisions. Be available to work assigned evening and weekend community events. Be able to perform the physical requirements associated with event setup and operations. Experience with Canva, CapCut, Adobe products, photography, video editing, or similar creative software is preferred but not required. Physical Requirements The position requires the ability to perform duties associated with community events and event setup. The intern must be able to: Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Assist with moving event supplies, signage, materials, tables, equipment, and other event-related items. Stand and walk for extended periods during community events. Bend, reach, lift, carry, and perform other physical activities associated with event setup and breakdown. Work outdoors during community events and be exposed to varying weather conditions. Work Schedule The position is scheduled for approximately 15 hours per week.
  • Regular work hours will be coordinated based on the needs of the Municipal Development District and the intern's approved schedule.
  • The position requires flexibility. Evening and weekend work is required for assigned community events, programs, meetings, content assignments, and other MDD activities.

The intern's weekly schedule may be adjusted to accommodate required event attendance while maintaining approximately 15 hours per week. Supervision and Accountability The Digital Marketing, Tourism & Events Intern will work under the joint direction of the Executive Director and Community Engagement Coordinator. The Executive Director will provide direction and oversight related to: Visit La Vernia strategy and priorities. Marketing and tourism initiatives. Major campaigns. Influencer and creator engagement. Economic development initiatives. Event priorities. Internship goals and expectations. Overall performance and accountability. The Community Engagement Coordinator will collaborate with the intern on: Social media and content creation. Community engagement. "From La Vernia, For La Vernia" Career Stories. Business features. Event planning and preparation. Community outreach. Assigned marketing and tourism projects. The intern will be expected to maintain regular communication with both the Executive Director and Community Engagement Coordinator regarding assignments, upcoming content, campaigns, events, deadlines, and project status. Performance Expectations The intern is expected to: Consistently meet established content and project deadlines. Maintain the required Visit La Vernia posting schedule. Maintain an organized weekly content calendar. Communicate proactively regarding assignments and scheduling needs. Attend assigned events and activities. Demonstrate professionalism when representing the Municipal Development District. Maintain quality and consistency in Visit La Vernia content. Accept and incorporate feedback from MDD staff. Take ownership of assigned projects and responsibilities. Contribute creative ideas and recommendations. Maintain appropriate professional conduct when interacting with the public and community partners Additional Duties The duties listed above are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by the individual assigned to this position.
