Dynamic Specialty Inc. is seeking an experienced Technical Lead to join its Product Development team and provide technical leadership across the design, development, delivery, and evolution of the company's insurance technology platform. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering and DevOps expertise with an understanding of commercial insurance and Managing General Agency (MGA) operations. This role requires someone who can bridge technology and business, translating complex insurance requirements into solutions that can scale over time, while working closely with product, operations, and business stakeholders. The Technical Lead will serve as a technical bridge between the product, business, and engineering teams, ensuring that business objectives are translated into high-quality technology solutions and that the development organization can deliver those solutions reliably, efficiently, and continuously.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership and direction to product development teams, establishing sound architectural and engineering practices. Lead the design and development of scalable, secure, and maintainable applications using Java, Spring Boot, WebFlux, React, Python, and relational databases. Apply strong knowledge of commercial insurance and MGA processes, including underwriting, quoting, policy administration, billing, claims, carrier relationships, and agency distribution. Partner closely with Product Management, business stakeholders, and subject-matter experts to translate business needs into effective technical solutions. Help shape and continuously improve the product backlog by identifying technical dependencies, architectural considerations, and opportunities for automation and simplification. Establish and promote DevOps and CI/CD practices, including fully automated build, test, deployment, infrastructure, and release pipelines. Work with AWS cloud technologies and services, including EC2, ELB, RDS, and CloudFormation (Terraform accepted). Establish engineering standards for automated testing, code quality, security, monitoring, and production reliability. Mentor developers and provide technical guidance through design reviews, code reviews, and problem solving. Participate in architectural decisions and ensure solutions align with long-term product and business objectives. Leverage AI, automation, and modern development practices to improve engineering productivity and product capabilities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's): Software Engineering & Architecture Knowledge — Possesses deep, hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, WebFlux, React, Python, and relational databases, with the ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable applications and make sound architectural decisions. DevOps & Cloud Infrastructure Skills — Demonstrates the ability to build and maintain fully automated CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and AWS cloud environments that support reliable, repeatable, and secure releases. Commercial Insurance & MGA Knowledge — Understands underwriting, quoting, policy administration, billing, claims, carrier relationships, and agency distribution, enabling credible collaboration with business stakeholders and accurate translation of insurance requirements into technical solutions. Technical Leadership & Mentoring Abilities — Able to set technical direction, establish engineering standards, and develop team members through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on guidance while remaining an active technical contributor. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills — Able to break down complex business and technical problems, evaluate trade-offs, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions that balance speed, quality, and long-term maintainability. Communication & Cross-Functional Collaboration Skills — Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing, with audiences ranging from executives and business stakeholders to engineers, and partners effectively with product, operations, and business teams to align priorities and drive outcomes. Integrity & Accountability — Consistently demonstrates a high level of professional integrity, ethical conduct, and personal accountability for the quality, security, and reliability of the solutions the team delivers. Confidentiality Knowledge & Practice — Maintains the highest degree of confidentiality when handling sensitive policyholder, carrier, and pricing data, proprietary source code and system architecture, and organizational matters.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
6+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in a technical leadership role. Proven experience leading software development teams and delivering production-grade applications. Strong hands-on experience with Java/Spring Boot and modern web application development, preferably React. Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, deployment automation, and cloud infrastructure. Experience implementing and maintaining automated pipelines using technologies such as GitHub Actions and related DevOps tooling. Demonstrated experience working directly with business stakeholders and translating business requirements into technical solutions. Strong knowledge of commercial insurance, with particular emphasis on MGA business models and operations. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Ability to balance hands-on technical contribution with team leadership and architectural responsibility.
Preferred:
Experience building technology platforms for commercial P&C insurance. Experience with underwriting, rating/pricing, policy, billing, claims, agency, or carrier systems. Experience with reactive programming, APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architectures. Experience with AWS, relational databases, observability, and distributed systems. Experience applying AI/ML and generative AI to software development or insurance products.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Requires extended periods of sitting, computer use, and screen work, along with clear communication via phone and video. Professional office work setting with standard office equipment and moderate noise levels. Fast-paced environment with occasional extended hours during major releases, deployments, or production issues. Occasional travel may be required for stakeholder meetings, team sessions, or industry events. Requires handling confidential policyholder, carrier, and proprietary system information in compliance with privacy, security, and legal standards.
Pay:
$70,000.00 per year
