JOB OBJECTIVE
The Product Manager (PM), Genetic Identity manages the full product life cycle of a designated segment of Promega's forensics portfolio, with a customer base centered on forensic and paternity testing laboratories. The PM leads commercial execution and full product life-cycle management for their assigned product lines, using AI-enabled workflows to sharpen customer and market insight, and ensuring Promega's solutions align with customers' critical mission of scientific truth and justice. Working side by side with the GI product management team and Segment Marketing, the PM helps launch and maintain a world-class portfolio that advances forensic science and meets revenue targets.
CORE DUTIES
1. AI-Enabled Customer Discovery & Market Intelligence Develop and deploy AI tools and workflows (including large language models, literature synthesis, and competitive intelligence platforms) to identify, characterize, and validate unmet needs among forensic and paternity testing laboratories, medical examiner offices, law enforcement agencies, and distributor partners. Develop and maintain customer archetypes grounded in laboratory workflow analysis, casework realities, and accreditation constraints, translating insights into opportunity definitions that inform product and R D priorities for assigned products. Monitor competitive landscape, regulatory and accreditation developments, and scientific literature to anticipate market shifts relevant to assigned products. 2. Business Case Development & Commercial Framing Contribute to early-stage business cases, including market sizing, competitive analysis, value propositions, pricing strategy, and adoption forecasts, with enough rigor to drive investment decisions at portfolio reviews and gate committees. Own Voice of Customer (VoC) methodology design for assigned product programs and translate the VoC input into customer and product requirements, partnering with R D on technical feasibility and design considerations. Frame and validate customer needs in alignment with GI portfolio priorities, ensuring commercial opportunity is tied to both customer mission impact and Promega business objectives. Contribute to minimum viable product (MVP) scope definition grounded in customer-validated requirements. 3. Full Product Life-Cycle Management Serve as the commercial voice for assigned products in cross-functional product development teams, at portfolio reviews and gate committees, from concept through post-launch life-cycle management. Partner with R D, Operations, QA/Regulatory, and Commercial stakeholders, influencing without direct authority to mobilize resources and advance products through development gates and ongoing life-cycle decisions. Navigate constructive tension between innovation ambition and operational feasibility, balancing speed-to-market with scientific rigor and regulatory requirements specific to forensic and paternity testing markets. Execute post-launch review and ongoing financial and competitive performance reviews for assigned products, incorporating VOC into product decisions and adjusting commercial tactics accordingly. Manage response to customer complaints related to assigned products in partnership with cross-functional teams. Identify and recommend products for discontinuation, and own new product sales and distributor training content and delivery for assigned products. 4. Adoption Strategy & Launch Execution, in Partnership with Segment Marketing Collaborate with the Sr. Segment Marketing Manager to develop and execute adoption strategies for assigned products during the first 24 months post-launch, including KOL identification, seeding plans, and sales enablement. Provide product and market expertise to inform launch messaging and campaigns led by Segment Marketing and establish shared KPIs for launch success and early adoption with Segment Marketing and Sales; monitor results and recommend tactical adjustments. 5. KEY QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree (BS) or higher in a life sciences field, preferably molecular biology or forensic science; an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in life sciences or forensic science is a plus. 2. 3 or more years of experience in business setting within life sciences, diagnostics, or forensic/human identification markets. Prior professional experience in a forensic DNA, human identification, or crime laboratory setting, including familiarity with accreditation frameworks such as SWGDAM, ENFSI, and others, is strongly preferred. 3. Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools and workflow design for market research, competitive intelligence, or scientific literature synthesis. 4. Proven ability to contribute to business cases, including market sizing, competitive analysis, and voice-of-customer input, that support portfolio investment decisions. 5. Experience bridging technical feasibility, customer insight, and commercial framing to drive product decisions through phase-gate governance forums. 6. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives without formal authority across R D, Operations, QA/RA, and Commercial functions. 7. Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with the ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to improve efficiency, automation, and collaboration.
