Job Description

Position Overview The Gallery Assistant will play an integral role in growing the gallery's visibility, artist relationships, collector base, and sales by working closely with and assisting the needs of the Gallery Managers. This position combines art sales, client engagement, social media, marketing, communications, event planning and gallery operations and is ideal for a creative, personable, and motivated individual with a passion for contemporary art. The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging with artists, collectors, art enthusiasts, businesses, and members of the community while helping to develop meaningful connections between artwork and prospective buyers. Key Responsibilities Sales & Client Relations Engage with gallery visitors and prospective collectors in a welcoming and professional manner. Develop and maintain relationships with collectors, art enthusiasts, interior designers, businesses, and community members. Follow up with prospective buyers and leads through phone, email, and social media. Assist clients in selecting artwork based on their interests, aesthetic preferences, and spaces. Support artwork sales from initial inquiry through completion of the transaction. Maintain an organized database of collectors, prospects, clients, and professional contacts. Identify opportunities to expand the gallery's collector network and generate new sales leads. Social Media & Digital Marketing Develop and maintain engaging content for Instagram, Facebook, and other relevant social platforms. Photograph and create content featuring artwork, artists, exhibitions, gallery events, and behind-the-scenes activities. Write compelling captions, artist highlights, exhibition announcements, newsletters, and promotional materials. Help develop and execute social media campaigns designed to increase engagement, gallery visits, artist exposure, and sales. Monitor social media engagement and identify opportunities to expand the gallery's online presence. Assist with website updates and online artwork listings as needed. Marketing & Communications Assist in developing marketing strategies to promote exhibitions, artists, events, and gallery initiatives. Coordinate email communications with collectors, prospective buyers, artists, and community contacts. Help develop promotional materials, invitations, press releases, and other communications. Build relationships with local businesses, organizations, designers, collectors, and media outlets to increase gallery visibility. Artist & Gallery Support Maintain professional communication with represented and exhibiting artists. Assist with artist outreach and onboarding of new artists. Help gather artist biographies, artwork information, images, and promotional materials. Ensure artwork information and pricing are accurate and up to date. Assist with general gallery activities, including installation preparation, inventory, organization, and events. Qualifications & Skills Previous experience in sales, marketing, social media, communications, hospitality, retail, or the arts preferred. Genuine interest in contemporary art and a willingness to learn about artists, techniques, and art history. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities. Comfortable initiating conversations and following up with prospective clients. Creative, organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented. Strong social media skills, particularly Instagram and Facebook. Ability to create engaging written and visual content. Professional appearance and demeanor. Support special events, artist receptions, exhibitions, and community outreach initiatives. Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative gallery environment. Experience with Canva, email marketing platforms, CRM systems, photography, or website management is a plus. What We're Looking For We are seeking someone who is personable, entrepreneurial, creative, and sales-minded —someone who understands that selling art is ultimately about building relationships and helping people connect with artwork that is meaningful to them. The successful candidate will have the ability to represent the gallery professionally while helping us expand our reach, strengthen relationships with artists and collectors, and create new opportunities for both the gallery and the artists we represent.
Pay:
$10.00 - $15.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 10.0 per week
