  • $32 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications CPR Certification Sports coaching First aid First Aid Certification Organizational skills Full Job Description Kenmore Community Rowing Club is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Coach to lead and develop all rowing programs at KCRC, including Masters, Youth, and Learn-to-Row.
This position combines hands-on coaching with program leadership, staff management, safety oversight, and long-term strategic planning. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a passion for inclusive community sport, and the ability to inspire athletes toward both personal growth and competitive success. This is an exciting opportunity to help guide a growing community rowing club with expanding youth, masters, recreational, and competitive programming. Position Overview The Head Coach will serve as the primary coaching leader for KCRC, overseeing the development and execution of training plans, program structure, staff support, athlete pathways, and regatta preparation. This role requires a coach who is comfortable working with a wide range of athletes, from first-time Learn-to-Row participants to competitive Masters and Youth crews. The Head Coach will work closely with the KCRC Board of Directors, assistant coaches, volunteers, athletes, and families to ensure programming is safe, organized, welcoming, and aligned with the club's mission and growth goals. Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead on-water and land-based training for KCRC's Masters, Youth, and Learn-to-Row programs.
  • Coach both sweep and sculling across a range of skill levels, from beginners to competitive crews.
  • Develop seasonal training plans that support athlete growth, retention, and race preparation.
  • Prepare crews for local and regional regattas, including lineups, race planning, and on-site coaching.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture where community and competitive growth coexist.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and mentor assistant coaches and volunteers.
  • Work closely with the KCRC Board of Directors on program planning, staffing needs, and long-term club growth.
  • Communicate clearly with athletes, families, coaches, and club leadership regarding expectations, schedules, progress, and goals. Safety, Operations, and Club Leadership
  • Uphold KCRC safety policies, USRowing guidelines, and SafeSport standards across all programs.
  • Model best practices for on-water safety, launch use, weather monitoring, traffic patterns, and equipment handling.
  • Help maintain an organized, professional, and safe boathouse environment.
  • Ensure proper use, storage, and care of club equipment and facilities.
  • Communicate with board leadership regarding equipment maintenance, safety concerns, facility needs, and operational issues. Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience at the club, high school, collegiate, or comparable level.
  • Strong technical knowledge of both sweep and sculling.
  • USRowing Level 2 certification or higher, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Current SafeSport, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, athlete-centered coaching.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with athletes, families, coaches, volunteers, and board leadership. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing a coaching staff or leading multi-program rowing operations.
  • Competitive rowing or coxing background.
  • Familiarity with iCrew, RegattaCentral, and related rowing management systems.
  • Experience coaching both sculling and sweep programs.
  • Experience supporting both recreational and competitive athlete development.
  • Launch-driving experience and/or Washington State Boater Education Card.
