Job Description

Job Title:
Meat Wrapper
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Meat Wrapper provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Wraps, weighs, and prices meat products cut by the meat cutter. Stocks meat cases with cut, ground and otherwise prepared fresh meat, prepackaged meats and other items. Rotates product and removes expired or poor quality product. Keeps department clean, orderly, and maintained in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
JOB DUTIES
Safeway Meat Wrapper employees are generally responsible for completing the following job duties: 1. Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy. 2. Operate wrapping machine. 3. Obtain fresh, frozen, smoked and prepackaged meats from storage coolers and freezers and display in meat department display cases. 4. Use carts, wheeled racks, dollies and pallet jacks to move bulky stock. 5. Place precut or ground meat in plastic tray and wraps, weighs, and prices by hand or using automatic machine. 6. Periodically checks display and storage areas for product with expired dates and removes from area for processing. 7. Perform daily temp and tare checks. 8. May order product and supplies. 9. Other duties as assigned.

1. Ability to follow company customer service procedures. Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience. 2. Ability to interact with customers and co-workers. 3. Ability to understand and follow instructions. 4. Ability to operate a scale, read, and follow instructions.

Constant handling/grasping while wrapping, weighing, and stocking product. Frequent repetitive motion while wrapping and stocking.
Vision:
Use of peripheral vision and depth perception to move around crowded meat area containing dangerous moving machinery. Near vision used to read tags, prices, dates, electric displays and other material. Use of color vision to determine freshness and condition of meat and poultry products.
Hearing:
To converse with customers and provide service. To converse with employees to receive information and instructions.
Speech:
To converse with customers and provide service. To converse with employees to obtain instructions or information.
Union and Non-Union:
"The pay range is $17.38 to $28.15 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility)."
