Limited, with occasional support for projects and site installations Position Overview A growing industrial manufacturer is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Technician with strong real-world welding and fabrication experience to support the build, assembly, maintenance, and installation of custom industrial automation equipment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with fabricated equipment, mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to improve equipment functionality and fitment. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in fabrication and welding, along with the ability to assemble custom machinery and production systems. Experience with painting using HVLP or conventional spray applications is a plus, though training can be provided in that area. Core Responsibilities Welding, Fabrication & Mechanical Assembly Interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, schematics, and mechanical layouts Perform MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding on structural components, frames, piping, and custom equipment assemblies Fabricate, assemble, and modify custom automation and industrial equipment Assemble mechanical systems and production equipment using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments Route and secure pneumatic tubing and electrical cables during equipment assembly Work closely with engineers and technicians to identify and resolve fitment, alignment, or assembly issues Ensure proper alignment, tolerances, fit-up, and overall build quality during fabrication and assembly processes Equipment Assembly & Automation Support Assemble custom automation equipment and mechanical subassemblies Install hardware, brackets, guards, actuators, cylinders, and machine components Assist with integration of pneumatic systems into custom machinery and production equipment Support equipment testing, operational validation, and startup activities Collaborate with fabrication, engineering, and production teams to improve equipment builds and assembly efficiency Multi-Craft Maintenance & Equipment Reliability Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment and machinery Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and pneumatic systems Replace bearings, gearboxes, belts, chains, valves, seals, and related mechanical components Inspect equipment for wear, leaks, vibration, and operational issues Support plant uptime and continuous improvement initiatives Pneumatics & Industrial Systems Install and troubleshoot pneumatic tubing, regulators, valves, actuators, and compressed air systems Read and interpret pneumatic schematics and layouts Assist with system testing, pressure checks, and troubleshooting activities Support integration of pneumatic controls into automated production systems Installation, Startup & Field Support Assist with equipment installation, relocation, teardown, and startup activities Perform field modifications, repairs, and equipment adjustments as needed Support commissioning, operational testing, and final system validation Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams during startup and installation activities Documentation & Safety Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, and fabrication records Document completed work, inspections, and parts usage Follow OSHA regulations, plant safety procedures, and lockout/tagout practices Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment Qualifications Education Technical training, trade school, or equivalent hands-on industrial experience preferred Experience At least 3 years of experience in welding, fabrication, mechanical assembly, or industrial maintenance Experience building or assembling custom equipment, machinery, or automation systems preferred Experience in manufacturing, industrial fabrication, or custom equipment environments strongly preferred Technical Skills Strong welding and fabrication skills with hands-on shop experience Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and pneumatic schematics Experience assembling mechanical equipment and fastening custom components together Knowledge of pneumatics, compressed air systems, and mechanical assembly practices Familiarity with routing pneumatic tubing and electrical cables on equipment builds Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, grinders, and precision measuring tools Basic understanding of hydraulics or industrial automation systems is a plus Experience with HVLP or conventional spray painting applications is a plus (training available) Preferred Background Experience supporting custom machinery, automation equipment, or industrial production systems Familiarity with compressors, air systems, and pneumatic controls Experience working in fast-paced fabrication or manufacturing environments Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail during equipment assembly and fitment Certifications (Preferred) Welding certifications OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Forklift or lift operation certification Work Environment Hands-on role in a fabrication shop and industrial manufacturing environment Frequent welding, fabrication, lifting, and mechanical assembly activities Exposure to machinery, compressed air systems, and industrial production equipment Occasional travel for installations and field service support Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $40,000 -
