Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Make a meaningful impact as a Sign Language Interpreter working with students in a supportive educational setting near Decatur, AL for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract opportunity is ideal for dedicated professionals passionate about providing high-quality interpreting services in a school-based environment.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Alabama SLI license required EIPA certification highly preferred Previous experience with educational interpreting, particularly in schools or pediatric settings, is a plus Strong communication and interpersonal skills Committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible classroom experience Able to work full-time during regular school hours (no weekends!) Positive attitude and collaborative team spirit
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation for students, ensuring clear communication between students, staff, and peers Collaborate closely with educators, school staff, and students to support learning objectives and accessibility Adapt to varied communication needs, educational content, and activities Maintain professional confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions Participate in IEP meetings and contribute valuable input regarding students' communication preferences Stay up to date with best practices and educational tools for interpreting in school settings
