Within the Nursing Department at ELMHS, located in Jackson, LA The Mission of ELMHS is to provide mental health evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation for adults. Programs include inpatient interventions, jail-based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluation, care, custody, and aftercare; intermediate and long-term psychiatric services are coordinated with the total system of care in Louisiana ELMHS is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join the Nursing Department as a Medical Assistant! In this role, you will review the patient daily census for completeness/accuracy; maintain active patient medical records; strip active and discharged patient medical records and submit them to Medical Records; and handle other important matters. Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in administrative services in a healthcare setting; OR Two years of experience or training in patient care; OR An associate's degree or certificate in a medical assistant training program. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:
In this role, you will: Review patient daily census for completeness/accuracy; maintain active patient medical records; strip active and discharged patient medical records and submit to Medical Records; documents and files patient data into records from Nursing Services information sheets. Gather, prepare and provide all necessary information to outside agencies for medical appointment for patients on assigned unit. Retrieves and delivers all OTC medications from central supply. Returns unused medication to the Director of Nursing or Asst. Director of Nursing accordingly. Delivers blood work to Lab as required. Enters patients' weights and vital record sign on assigned unit into the LTC program and put on Resident's Chart. Assist nurses as needed in entering doctor's orders in the LTC program. Independently perform a variety of clerical duties including but not limited to: patient labels for all forms in all patients' charts on assigned unit, transmitting internal and outgoing correspondence such as Dr.'s orders and reorders to GPS Pharmacy, maintaining various patient lists for Nursing Staff, Dietary, Social Services, etc., as required. Operate and maintains office equipment (computers, copiers, and fax machines). Posts schedules for staff in prominent place. Posts memos and other important information as required. Ensures health care delivery areas are fully stocked, organized, clean, and disinfected. Orders materials and supplies as needed. Uses computer to create, enter and retrieve various forms and information. Prepares materials which involves some knowledge of medical terms. Prepares, copies, distribute, and maintain various medical forms monthly; monitors and maintains all clerical supplies as needed. Prepares, copies and maintains all forms for employees on unit such as leave slips, call-in slips, etc. Responds to incoming telephone calls and routes them accordingly. Monitors and pages over intercom as required. Sorts and distributes inter-hospital mail and make ward rounds every day. May compile employee time records; reviews time sheets for completeness. Assists practitioners to deliver health care services, treatments, examinations, and procedures for patients. Assists in management of patient behavior utilizing therapeutic techniques, restrains hostile and physically violent patients when necessary. May involve shift work.
