Job Title:
Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist Job Description We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our high-volume laboratory team. This role involves performing a variety of tests and procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology, contributing significantly to patient care, particularly in an oncology setting. Responsibilities + Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and maintaining records of patient results. + Send specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house. + Process incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens. + Perform specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens. + Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, performing daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance. + Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all QC activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance. + Record lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents. + Participate in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results annually. + Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differentials. + Perform microscopic examination of urinary sediment. + Record results on appropriate worksheets and computer systems, performing file maintenance. + Process specimens for send-out testing. + Follow laboratory policies when test systems are not within established acceptable performance levels. + Identify problems affecting test performance or reporting and either correct them or notify a supervisor. + Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance standards. + Verify all critical results and document with accurate follow-up. + Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure all supplies are viable before use. + Prepare reagents, stains, and other chemical solutions as needed. + Restock the laboratory area as needed. + Process in-house and incoming results for charting. + Chart patient results in a timely manner. Essential Skills + ASCP/AMT Certification for Medical Laboratory Technician's + At least 2 years of experience preferred + Experience as a Generalist, Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Technologist, or in medical lab technology and medical laboratory science Additional Skills & Qualifications + Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, typically resulting in an associate degree + Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) Work Environment The position is located in a high-volume lab onsite in Norfolk, VA. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with flexible start times between 7am and 9am, and end times between 3:30pm and 5:30pm. No weekends or night shifts are required. The work environment requires the ability to keep up with a fast pace and work independently. This role offers the unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in an oncology lab, providing meaningful work with cancer patients. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
