Job Description

Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) Compassion House Behavioral PLLC is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and ethically grounded Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to join our growing behavioral health team serving individuals throughout the Hampton Roads community. The QMHP will provide community-based Mental Health Skill-Building Services (MHSS) to adults experiencing mental health challenges that impair daily functioning and independent living. This position focuses on helping individuals develop the skills necessary to achieve stability, independence, and improved quality of life within the community. Services are provided in home and community settings and include skill-building related to coping strategies, medication adherence, housing stability, communication, emotional regulation, community integration, and daily living skills. Compassion House Behavioral PLLC maintains high standards regarding ethical practice, Medicaid compliance, documentation accuracy, and clinical accountability. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and the ability to adhere to all DMAS, DBHDS, HIPAA, and Board of Counseling regulations governing behavioral health services. Duties & Responsibilities Provide Mental Health Skill-Building Services (MHSS) in accordance with DMAS, DBHDS, and agency regulations and standards. Conduct functional assessments and assist in the development, implementation, and review of Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
Provide individualized training in:
Symptom management and coping skills Medication adherence Social and communication skills Independent living skills Community integration Financial management and budgeting Vocational readiness and daily structure Maintain timely, accurate, and audit-ready documentation, including progress notes, quarterly reviews, ISP updates, supervision records, and coordination of care documentation. Ensure all documentation reflects services actually rendered, aligns with ISP goals/objectives, and complies with Medicaid and licensing requirements. Adhere strictly to documentation deadlines and agency productivity expectations. Participate in all required supervision in accordance with Virginia Board of Counseling and agency requirements: QMHP-T staff must actively participate in weekly supervision. QMHP staff are required to attend monthly supervision and staff trainings. Demonstrate ethical decision-making, professional boundaries, confidentiality, and accountability in all interactions with clients, staff, referral sources, and community partners. Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, probation officers, hospitals, social services, and other providers to ensure coordinated and ethical continuity of care. Provide crisis intervention support and assist with safety planning when clinically indicated. Participate in quality assurance activities, chart reviews, compliance monitoring, and corrective action processes as needed. Immediately report concerns involving client safety, abuse/neglect, ethical concerns, or documentation discrepancies to supervisory staff. Provide services in home, community, office, and telehealth settings as appropriate while maintaining HIPAA compliance and professional standards. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field required; Master's degree preferred. Must meet Virginia QMHP eligibility requirements under
DBHDS/DMAS
standards. Strong knowledge of Medicaid documentation requirements, person-centered planning, and behavioral health compliance standards. Understanding of Virginia Board of Counseling regulations, supervision requirements, and ethical responsibilities. Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, trauma histories, homelessness, substance use disorders, or justice involvement preferred. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and exercise sound clinical judgment in community-based settings. Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete documentation accurately and on time. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to provide community-based services required. Ability to pass background checks and maintain all required certifications and trainings.
