Job Title:
Medical Scribe Job Description We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Medical Scribe to support a growing ophthalmology practice. In this role, you enhance physician efficiency by accurately documenting patient encounters in real time within the EMR system, assisting with basic ocular screenings, and supporting both clinical and administrative functions. You collaborate closely with physicians and patients to ensure accurate records, smooth patient flow, and clear communication of care instructions. Responsibilities Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits in real time directly into the EMR system during patient encounters. Collaborate closely with physicians to complete, review, and submit accurate and timely medical records. Perform basic ocular screenings and gather comprehensive patient histories as directed. Assist in maintaining a smooth and efficient patient flow throughout the clinic by coordinating patient movement and supporting clinic operations. Review and clearly explain physician instructions and treatment plans to patients to support understanding and adherence. Perform clinical support tasks as directed, such as preparing exam rooms, assisting during examinations, and organizing patient information. Provide administrative support, including data entry, documentation management, and other office administration duties related to patient care. Maintain a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism in all documentation and patient interactions. Communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients to ensure a positive and efficient clinic experience. Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic in daily responsibilities. Essential Skills At least 6+ months of experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting. At least 6+ months of medical scribing experience. High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in a medical setting, preferably within ophthalmology. Proficiency with EMR systems and electronic documentation. Strong office administration skills, including accurate data entry and record management. Excellent data entry and typing skills with high attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with physicians, staff, and patients. Demonstrated reliability and a strong work ethic. Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered service in a clinical environment. Ability to use personal transportation to reliably commute to the clinic. Additional Skills & Qualifications Interest in building a long-term career in ophthalmology or medical specialties. Willingness to learn and grow into advanced ophthalmic roles, including technician or certified positions. Openness to pursuing ophthalmic certifications such as COA, COT, or COMT with employer support. Comfort working in a fast-paced clinic environment while maintaining accuracy and composure. Ability to adapt to evolving processes and technologies within a growing organization. Work Environment This role is based in an ophthalmology clinic that is part of a growing organization with multiple locations. You work closely with physicians, clinical staff, and patients in a professional medical office environment. The position involves extensive use of EMR systems, computers, and standard office and clinical equipment. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, with shifts typically from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., plus two Saturdays per month after training, with Saturday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The clinic emphasizes efficient patient flow, collaborative teamwork, and a supportive culture focused on professional growth. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Woodland Park, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
