Job Description
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are looking for a Midstream Accountant that supports day-to-day accounting activities related to midstream oil and gas operations, including pipelines, gathering systems, processing, and terminals. This role is well-suited for an accounting professional who enjoys working close to operations, managing transactional accounting responsibilities, and building a strong foundation in asset-based and operational accounting. Working under the guidance of senior accountants or accounting management, the Midstream Accountant is responsible for journal entries, reconciliations, invoicing, and operational cost analysis while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP. This position offers strong exposure to the business, cross-functional collaboration, and a clear path for continued growth within the accounting and finance organization. Key Responsibilities Prepare and record daily and monthly general ledger journal entries related to midstream operations Prepare and issue daily and monthly NGL sales invoices to third-party customers Process routine NGL transportation and operational invoices Assist the tax team with the timely issuance of PERC payments Reconcile internal records to third-party statements; investigate and resolve discrepancies Maintain accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations for assigned assets and accounts Track and monitor accruals, prepaids, and capital project activity Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by preparing supporting schedules and documentation Analyze operational costs, margins, and variances; assist in explaining drivers and fluctuations Support cost allocations across assets or systems based on volumes, throughput, or contractual terms Assist with inventory-related accounting where applicable (line fill, materials, or operational inventory) Support fixed asset accounting activities, including capitalization, depreciation, and asset-level analysis Prepare internal operational and financial reports, including variance analyses and trend reporting Coordinate with Operations, Commercial, Tax, and other departments to gather and review financial inputs Participate in monthly meetings and respond to internal and external inquiries professionally and timely Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing reconciliations and supporting documentation Contribute to data integrity, consistency, and process improvement initiatives across accounting systems Utilize TIPS (Tangible/Integrated Pipeline System) or similar midstream accounting software to support operational accounting, cost tracking, allocations, and reporting across pipeline and terminal assets Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within oil & gas, midstream, or other asset-intensive environments Solid understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting close activities Ability to analyze accounting and financial reporting issues and develop practical solutions Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic data analysis) Working knowledge of accounting systems (e.g., SAP, OneStream, or similar ERP platforms) Exposure to FERC-regulated environments and data reconciliation processes preferred Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across departments
Pay Details:
