We are a propane company seeking an experienced Mini Excavator Operator to join our installation team. The primary responsibility is operating a mini (small/compact) excavator to dig precise holes for underground propane tank installations at residential customer sites, including new construction and existing homes. The role requires careful excavation to avoid underground utilities, safe loading/unloading of equipment, and adherence to safety protocols in often tight residential spaces. Key Responsibilities Safely operate mini excavators to excavate holes for underground propane tanks, ensuring proper depth, dimensions, and grading per job specifications. Carefully dig around existing underground utilities (e.g., water lines, gas lines, electrical, septic) using utility locate marks and hand-digging when necessary to prevent damage. Load and unload the mini excavator and related equipment from trailers using ramps or other safe methods. Transport equipment to and from job sites, including securing loads properly. Perform daily pre- and post-operation inspections, basic maintenance (e.g., checking fluids, greasing), and report any issues. Assist with site preparation, backfilling after tank placement, and basic landscaping restoration as needed. Coordinate with the installation crew, homeowners, and utility locators to ensure safe and efficient work. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and local regulations for excavation and propane installation. Work in various weather conditions and on diverse terrains, including new construction sites and established residential properties. Qualifications and Requirements Proven experience (at least 2-3 years preferred) operating mini/compact excavators in residential or utility installation settings. Strong knowledge of safe digging practices around underground utilities and experience with "Call Before You Dig" (811) processes. Ability to read site plans, grades, and utility locate marks. Valid driver's license; CDL preferred for hauling equipment. Physical ability to work outdoors, climb in/out of equipment, and perform manual tasks as needed. Commitment to safety with a clean driving and work record. Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to customer sites within our service area. High school diploma or equivalent; heavy equipment certification is a plus. Preferred Skills Experience with propane tank or similar underground installations (e.g., septic, utilities). Familiarity with other equipment like skid steers or backhoes. Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance. We offer competitive pay, benefits, and a supportive team environment. If you have the skills and experience to handle precise, safe excavations in residential settings, apply today!
