QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required; MSN preferred.License/Certifications:
Current RN license. Clinical or nursing leadership certification preferred. Must obtain when eligibility requirements are met or within 2 years.Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience. Previous supervisory experience a positive.Responsible to:
Director of Perioperative Services Responsible for: Direct reports include nursing services personnel in the Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU), Gastroenterology Unit (GEU), and Pre Admission Testing (PAT). Indirect reports include the RNs in Interventional Radiology and Pain Procedures.SUMMARY:
Provides clinical and administrative leadership to the designated units to ensure excellence in patient care, nursing practice, and operational performance. Promotes a culture that supports the organization and nursing mission, vision, and values. Fosters a professional practice environment that supports collaboration and continuous quality improvement. Oversees daily operations including staffing and resource management.DUTIES:
Supervises and supports nursing staff in responsible areas. Develops and maintains staff schedules and staffing plans in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and NYS Regulations. Ensures compliance with CMH Policies and Procedures, DNV Standards, and NYS Hospital Codes, Rules, and Regulations. Aligns nursing practice with ANA Scopes and Standards of Nursing Practice, NYS Nurse Practice Act, and Professional Organization standards. Provides financial oversight of departments and presents on budget performance on at least a monthly basis. Monitors clinical and quality performance metrics and identifies areas of opportunity. Optimizes patient flow and throughput on the units in partnership with charge RNs and nursing supervision. Communicates philosophy and principles of safety and insures adherence to all Columbia Memorial Hospital safety rules and regulations.REQUIREMENTS
Clinical and Professional Practice Leadership:
Promotes a culture of shared governance, accountability, and professional autonomy. Ensures frontline staff have a voice in practice, policy, and workflow decisions. Serves as a visible and accessible nursing leader. Leads unit practice in alignment with the organization and nursing's mission, vision, and values. Creates an environment that supports the CMH Nursing Professional Practice Model to deliver high quality care and patient centered outcomes. Participates in strategic planning processes for nursing as well as serves as a member of the nursing and perioperative services leadership teams.Quality, Safety, and Outcomes:
Monitors and improves nurse-sensitive quality indicators Promotes evidence-based practice and clinical inquiry at the unit level. Ensures compliance with DNV Standards, NYS Hospital Codes, Rules, and Regulations, and CMH's Policies and Procedures. Analyzes trends and communicates unit level performance using nursing dashboards. Uses these trends to drive practice changes where appropriate.Staff Leadership and Development:
Supports professional development, specialty certification, and lifelong learning. Conduct performance evaluations. Address disciplinary action as needed. Encourages participation in continuing education activities such as charge nurse and preceptor development courses. Serves as an advocate for nursing staff within the nursing leadership team. Serves as a role model of professional nursing and nursing leadership. Provides assistance in the orientation to and practice of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal/external disaster plans and proceduresOperational and Financial Management:
Manages departmental budgets, productivity, and resource utilization. Ensure appropriate staffing and meeting of staffing plans. Recruits, retains, and engages with nursing workforce. Oversees and approves scheduling, payroll, and time off requests for staff in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Collaborates with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other nursing personnel to ensure optimal patient throughput and outcomes. Addresses patient flow in partnership with charge nurses, providers, and members of the interdisciplinary team.Physical/Visual/Mental Demands:
Requires frequent lifting and/or carrying of patient's for short distances Requires frequent use of computer terminal, calculator, telephone, etc.Confidentiality:
