Job Description
Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. This vital role involves providing comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing various surgical procedures within a fast-paced hospital environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in aseptic techniques, patient assessment, and intraoperative support, ensuring optimal patient outcomes. This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative setting dedicated to delivering exceptional surgical care across diverse specialties. Responsibilities Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and sterile instruments are available and properly arranged prior to procedures. Assist surgeons and surgical teams during operative procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, passing instruments, and managing surgical tools. Monitor patient vital signs continuously throughout surgery, assessing anesthesia levels and responding promptly to any changes. Implement aseptic techniques diligently to prevent infection and maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols. Document all aspects of patient care accurately in medical records, including intraoperative observations, medications administered, and procedural details. Provide preoperative education and post-operative care instructions to patients and their families to facilitate recovery. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiologists, surgeons, and support staff to ensure seamless surgical workflows. Manage emergency situations effectively, utilizing advanced skills in airway management, IV infusion, and acute pain management when necessary. Assist with specimen collection and processing, ensuring proper labeling and documentation for laboratory analysis. Support quality improvement initiatives by adhering to hospital policies, standards such as NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance) standards, and regulatory requirements. Requirements Valid RN license with current registration in the relevant jurisdiction. Proven experience working as an Operating Room Nurse within a hospital setting; Level I or Level II trauma center experience is highly desirable. Proficiency in aseptic technique, sterile processing, suturing, and wound care. Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with EHR systems is preferred. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to perioperative care. Ability to perform patient assessment effectively and respond swiftly during emergencies using basic life support (BLS) skills. Experience with specialized procedures including catheterization, tube feeding management, or spinal tap is advantageous. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
