The Operations Accountant will support financial and operational accounting activities across multiple shop locations, with a strong emphasis on inventory support, shop cost control, and accurate financial reporting. This role partners closely with plant leadership, shop accountants, Field Operations, and Corporate Accounting to ensure inventory integrity, proper billing support, WIP accuracy, internal controls, and process improvement. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, supports cost reduction initiatives, and strengthens inventory and shop-cost processes through data-driven analysis and collaboration.Responsibilities:
Inventory Support (Multi‑Location)- Prepare and distribute inventory checklists and documents to support organized counts.
- Support inventory execution, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Analyze results, reconcile discrepancies, and report findings promptly.
- Help implement process improvements based on inventory outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records and update inventory data in Sage regularly.
- Resolve discrepancies between physical counts and system records.
- Recommend ways to improve inventory accuracy and efficiency.
- Support physical inventory activities, analyze variances, and implement corrective measures. Field Operations and Shop Accountant Support
- Review, upload, and post daily relief sheets to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Submit car file data for P&L reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and corporate policies.
- Support and participate in inventory cost reduction initiatives.
- Improve processes for shop costs and inventory valuation.
- Complete monthly Work In Progress (WIP) analysis.
- Analyze plant labor and inventory transactions for optimal billing.
- Perform additional duties as needed and travel to shop locations as needed (10-20% travel).
Qualifications:
- Able to follow written and oral instructions independently.
- Strong organizational skills; meets deadlines, including month-end close.
- Advanced Excel; skilled in analytics and reporting.
- Excellent communication, time management, and reliability; adaptable and self-driven.
- Familiar with inventory systems and controls; Sage or similar ERP experience preferred.
