Job Description

Limington, Maine Position Type:
Full-Time, Year-Round, Potential Live-In, On-Site Position Summary We are seeking an experienced, energetic, and highly motivated farming couple to manage, operate, and grow our orchard and vegetable production. The ideal couple will take ownership of daily operations—from greenhouse seeding to harvest—ensuring high-quality organic or sustainably grown produce and fruit for local markets, farmers' markets, or wholesale. This position requires a combination of intensive seasonal vegetable production, specialized tree fruit care, and overall property maintenance in the demanding Maine climate. Core Responsibilities 1. Orchard Management (Fruit Production) Prune fruit trees and vines to promote healthy growth and maximize yield Monitor tree health and identify pests, disease, or nutrient deficiencies Implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies Thin fruit to ensure optimal size, quality, and spacing Manage spray programs (fertilizers and organic pesticides) safely and effectively Harvest, grade, and pack fruit according to quality and market standards 2. Vegetable and Greenhouse Management Manage seedling production, including seeding, watering, and monitoring conditions Prepare beds, transplant crops, and manage trellising systems Implement weed management strategies and maintain irrigation systems Harvest, wash, and pack produce while maintaining food safety standards 3. Equipment Operation and Maintenance Operate and maintain tractors, mowers, sprayers, and other equipment Repair and maintain farm infrastructure (fences, irrigation lines, greenhouse systems) Perform winter maintenance and prepare equipment for the next season 4. Marketing, Sales, and Administration Manage sales through farmers' markets, CSA shares, or farm stand operations Maintain accurate records of planting, harvesting, and production activities Assist with customer engagement and local wholesale deliveries
Qualifications Experience:
Minimum 2-3 full seasons of commercial vegetable and/or orchard experience
Tree Skills:
Experience in pruning, thinning, and pest management for tree fruit preferred
Machinery:
Ability to operate and maintain tractors and farm equipment
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
Certifications:
Valid driver's license; pesticide applicator's license (or willingness to obtain)
