Immediately Job Description The job of Orientation and Mobility Specialist was established for the purpose/s of assist special education students age birth to 21, with visual and or other impairments to achieve maximum independence through safe, efficient travel within the home, school, and community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes.
  • Consult and Liaise with diagnosticians, ophthalmologists, optometrist, classroom teacher, parents and agencies for the purpose of to provide appropriate accommodations for the student.
  • Contribute to the development of the ER and IEP for the purpose of establishing goals.
  • Maintain updated pupil information, progress reports, assessment records (e.g. PennData, federal quota, deaf blind census, textbook access needs, IEP's, ER's progress reports parental releases) for the purpose of to ensure progress toward student goals.
  • Performs consultations for the purpose of supporting students in educational settings.
  • Performs orientation and mobility evaluations (e.
g. concept development, orientation to the environment, safe travel techniques, use of low vision devices, sensory development) for the purpose of focusing on long and short term needs of the students on new referrals and three year evaluations. Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. IEP's and ER's) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Provide input into student schedules (e.g. direct instruction and orientation and mobility) for the purpose of to ensure all enough time to deliver needed instruction. Other Functions
  • Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Register students with appropriate agencies for the purpose of to ensure delivery of appropriate services.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.
g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in related area
Certification Required:
Certificate in Education of the Visually Impaired, Orientation and Mobility; PDE certification desirable.
Experience Required:
Job Related Experience Required This position will be for the 2026-2027 School Year.
