Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Bring your expertise as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to a dynamic educational setting supporting students in need of guidance and specialized instruction. This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about helping children and young adults develop the skills necessary for safe and independent travel within their schools and communities. You'll make a lasting impact through individualized assessment and targeted programming.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience working with students with visual impairments in school environments preferred Strong understanding of safe travel methods, environmental adaptations, and sensory development techniques Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and educational staff Organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing a flexible caseload
Responsibilities:
Assess students' orientation and mobility needs and develop appropriate instructional plans Provide direct services, teaching safe travel strategies, use of mobility devices, and environmental awareness Consult and collaborate with teachers, families, and other support personnel to optimize student outcomes Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute insights regarding student progress Document services provided and progress made toward individualized goals, ensuring compliance with educational standards
