They oversee operations to ensure work efficiency, monitor workflow, and optimize processes. Quality control involves inspecting work, ensuring standards are met, and analyzing comebacks. Shop Foremen also provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and stay updated on industry advancements. They manage equipment, ensure safety compliance, and maintain a safe work environment. Administrative tasks include maintaining records, coordinating with other departments, managing inventory, and assisting with estimates. Shop foreman responsibilities Supervise and manage a team of technicians or mechanics, providing guidance, support, and training as needed. Enforces safety regulations and protocols, ensuring a safe working environment, and addressing safety concerns. Allocate work assignments to technicians and ensure that work is performed in accordance with established procedures and quality standards. Monitor and review the progress of work orders, ensuring that deadlines are met and any issues or delays are promptly addressed. Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and completed repairs to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications. Troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical issues or problems, providing technical expertise and guidance to technicians. Coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair projects, ensuring that resources, equipment, and materials are available and utilized efficiently. Maintain and update service records, including work orders, repair logs, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Collaborate with other departments or teams, such as parts procurement or customer service, to facilitate smooth workflow and customer satisfaction. Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills to improve shop operations. Shop foreman required skills Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team effectively. Excellent technical knowledge and expertise in automotive, machinery, or relevant mechanical systems. Proficient in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues or problems. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to finding solutions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with team members, customers, and other stakeholders. Sound decision-making skills, with the ability to make informed judgments and handle unexpected situations or challenges. Proficient in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software or tools. Required qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in automotive or mechanical fields is preferred. Proven experience as a technician or mechanic, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and repair procedures. Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a shop or service center environment. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, compliance standards, and environmental guidelines. Certification or licensure in relevant areas, such as Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification, is a plus. Strong knowledge of shop equipment and tools, including diagnostic equipment and hand tools. Physical Requirements 1. Lift objects of various dimensions and up to 100 lbs. of weight frequently. 2. Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and ladders. 3. Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push, and pull objects. 4. Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather. 5. Ability to repeatedly reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged standing/walking/sitting. 6. Ability to repeatedly walk on uneven surfaces.
