Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Scrap Metal Maintenance/Welder to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing scrap metal processing equipment, ensuring optimal operation and safety standards. Your expertise in welding, fabrication, and mechanical troubleshooting will be vital in supporting our metal recycling operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, contributing to efficient metal recovery and sustainability initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF MAINTENANCE/WELDER
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on the shredder, rotor, hammers, pins, grates, anvils, liners, and housing. Perform related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, notching of metal and plastic parts. Inspect and maintain infeed, transfer, and discharge conveyors (rollers, idlers, tail pulleys, skirting, scrapers). Service hydraulic power units, hoses, fittings, cylinders, and check for leaks or wear. Troubleshoot mechanical issues such as vibration, overheating, belt tracking, and abnormal wear. Maintain housekeeping around the shredder and work areas to reduce fire and trip hazards. Assist with planned shutdowns for major internal shredder repairs and change-outs. Perform hot work (stick/SMAW welding, cutting, grinding, torch work) for repairs and fabrication. Maintains accurate records of all work performed. Work from prints, drawings, and verbal instructions. Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS OF A MAINTENANCE/WELDER
High school diploma or GED; graduation from a trade school preferred. 2+ years' experience in welding processes such as MIG, stick, and torch welding on a variety of materials. Proficient in stick (SMAW) welding and oxy-fuel cutting.. Advanced knowledge of welding fabrication tools and techniques. Capable of climbing ladders, entering the shredder housing during shutdowns, and working outdoors in all weather. Knowledge of federal, state, and local job site health and safety rules, regulations, and best practices; understanding of potential job hazards. Ability to safely work at varying heights, in tight quarters, and varying positions. Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus. Interview Requirement Candidates will be required to complete a stick welding (SMAW) test as part of the interview process.
