  • Temporary, Full-time Job Summary We are seeking a responsible and friendly Summer Overnight Camp Counselors at the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains, Camp Farnsworth in Thetford, VT.
This role is essential in providing leadership and program facilitation to our campers. They will serve as a present, considerate resource to the camp community and help to ensure that campers and staff have a successful, memorable summer. They are responsible for aspects of programming and safety management during the camp season. Our ideal camp counselor will act like a role model in all that they do, focus on helping campers grow as people and friends, and be responsible for ensuring that campers are receiving their scheduled programs and activities. Counselors will provide outdoor programs that may include arts and crafts, nature-based activities and study, traditional and non-traditional sports, water activities, and more. They will help to build the camp community into a supportive, safe environment where campers can grow, take healthy risks, and try new things. Counselors will be responsible for the physical and mental health and safety of campers. Our camp counselors work directly with campers to ensure that activities are camper-led, and that campers are building a summer that they will always remember. Counselors at Camp Farnsworth will support campers throughout acitvities all day long and live on site overnight to be on-call for campers. Deliver quality outdoor programs that include various activities such as arts and crafts, nature study, theater, traditional and non-traditional sports, aquatic activities, off-site trips, and more. Supervise campers during assigned activities and programming including cookouts, rest hour, evening programs and all camp activities. Know the names and recognize the campers within your unit. Follow the daily schedule of the unit and its campers. Participate and model enthusiastically in activities to engage campers. Assume responsibility for the physical and mental health and safety of campers. Give reminders for following routines like handwashing, hygiene, sunscreen and bug spray use. Follow basic first aid and camp health management plan. Note any health changes in campers including coughs, rashes, sores, sunburns, etc. Know and follow emergency procedures. Support in the maintenance and care of the unit and camp facilities. Ensure campers follow expectations for cleanliness of personal areas and areas used throughout camp. Assist with the preparation of camp at the beginning and end of camp season. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Requirements At least 18 years old 2 years of experience working with youth Experience working outdoors Initiative and creativity with work assignments Willingness and ability to become First Aid/CPR/AED Certified or already Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED. Work Schedule Overnight camp staff are expected to live on-site at camp. Meals and lodging are included. All staff receive 2 hours off each full day and 24 hours off each week (typically staff receive Friday evening through Sunday morning off, but this may vary as needed).
