Paraprofessional- Library Media Specialist Reports to:Building Principal Summary:
In collaboration with the Building Principal and the district's Library Media Specialist, provide comprehensive library and media support to the instructional program at the school site.This includes:
Collection Management:
Maintain and curate the library and media collections, ensuring a variety of age-appropriate and culturally relevant resources for students and teachers. Identify and select new materials that align with curriculum standards and support diverse learning styles.Instructional Support:
Collaborate with teachers to identify resources that effectively complement classroom instruction. Assist students and teachers in locating and utilizing library and media resources to enhance learning outcomes.Library Operations:
Perform essential clerical tasks associated with collection development, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials. Foster a welcoming and organized library environment that encourages exploration and engagement with resources.Education and Experience:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, equivalent to 60 semester hours; or Possession of an associate's degree or higher; or Attainment of a high school diploma or equivalent, coupled with the capacity to meet a rigorous standard of quality. This can be demonstrated through the successful passage of an approved formal state academic assessment within 30 working days of hire. The State Board of Education has sanctioned the following formal assessments for demonstrating this knowledge:Basic Skills Examination:
Achieving a passing score on the Basic Skills TestMTTC. SAT
Scores:
A minimum score of 480 on the evidence-based reading and writing section, and 530 on the mathematics section of the SAT may be substituted for the Basic Skills Test or Professional Readiness Exam.Other Options:
Successful completion of the ETS Parapro Assessment with a passing score of 460.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans with Disabilities Act or ADA) Execute all assigned clerical duties efficiently. Manage and oversee the scheduling of library facility usage. Conduct reading sessions for classes as needed. Coordinate daily operations of the media center. Supervise volunteers contributing to library tasks. Implement established circulation and storage procedures for all resources and equipment. Foster positive public relations by supporting existing programs. Assist in teaching information retrieval systems and equipment usage, promoting independent utilization of the media center. Manage the computer lab and establish a usage schedule; provide assistance to students and teachers utilizing the lab. Participate in inventory procedures as delegated. Maintain the facility in a tidy, inviting condition, including managing displays and bulletin boards. Operate computerized library management systems proficiently. Engage in continuous professional growth and development, including reading professional literature. Attend necessary meetings. Uphold high academic standards and expectations. Portray the school district positively in all interactions. Adhere to school district policies and adhere to the established chain of command. Collective Bargaining Agreement Schedule:
180 days per year, generally following the TRCS Academic Calendar. Includes non-working days during winter, spring, and summer breaks, as well as designated holidays.Application:
